As I have said in multiple previous threads, the download package here does NOT work with web installs, including the 2.7 Add New Plugin menu page or the other wp 2.6.x plugin web installer tools. (OneClick, Plugin Central, etc.)
I have mirrored the archive in a webinstall compatable format at:

The difference in the format, is that the simple-forum directory is moved one directory up.
That is, instead of, at unzip time, creating a folder saying RELEASE-SPFV4 which contains a readme and the simple-forum folder, which should then be uploaded; Unzipping the webinstall archive creates, simply, the simple-forum directory (the readme is contained inside) which all of the auto installers will move into the plugins directory.
Since this archive was created manually on a Mac, using the Create Archive function of the MacOS, there will also be a superfluous and empty directory called __MacOS (two underscores)… this does not effect the installation or the function of wordpress or the plugin and, can be deleted or left in place, as the user chooses.
Andy once before mentioned that the user should read the README file before installing, which was the reason for NOT issuing a release that was compatable with these web install tools, and I respect that.
I personally think that the README should be placed as html on the same page as the INSTALL/UPGRADE button, instead of as a separate non standard format .rtf file. The file thing doesn't seem to get read as much as it should anyway and, unless they are members of some very specific fetish related adult sites, we should not be punishing our novice users.
Now however, given the complexity of the plugin and it's overall size in both number of and diversity of files and folders and the inability of some users to fully FTP or WEB-FTP these files into place, it seems unreasonable NOT to offer the most chalanged, with the ability to use the, now core enabled, web install tools.

The same argument can also be made for using the WordPress repository if for no other purpose than as a mirror of the final releases as they appear in the trac here.
I code my plugins as I see fit on my own computers and edit them according to my schedule.
IF I decide to release a new version, then I take my files and COPY them to the wp-svn.
All of the checkout and update crap doesn't mean a hill of beans over there, if the only person able to CHECK IN a new release is Andy or Steve. (if you decide, I could do it, because I already have an account there, but you'd have to give me the dedicated OK.)
I personally think that *IF* you do it, you would find that Automatic may be forced by the community to abandon the bbPress forums, in favor of simple press forums' streamlined interface with their primary product, wordpress.
This, in turn, would reduce the ammount of troubleshooting you would have to do on this site. I am ammazed at the fact that some days I go to bed late, and wake up early, and my RSS reader has HUNDREDS of new forum messages, that I havent read, on trouble shooting some of the specific problems you and Steve work on in one night/morning.
