WordPress.org Hosting

at the risk of raising the ire of Andy, thought I would open a thread to discuss the possibiity of hosting SPF over at the wordpress plugins repository (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins).

Personally, I would like us to consider doing this.  Certainly not hard over, but we have put a lot of work into this, why not let more folks know about it.  You would be amazed at the number of folks who only know to look there for plugins and themes.

We could increase our user base, and yes that would increase our support requests too.

Anyways, thought it worth a discussion.

I like the idea.

You would however have to convert a couple more users to assist in the support forums here.

One thing I would like you to consider in doing so, is to be able to change the simple-forum folder name to simple-press-forum (or simply allow the folder name to be changed)

this will cut support issues coming from WordPress.org users, in half, out of the gate.

with permission, I would also like to mirror SPFv401 on EVBid.com and on WPMUdev.org

BTW – WPMU v2.7 is due very soon… already have reports of WPMU + bbPress circulating in MU circles. Personally, I'd like to see more WPMU + SimplePressForums notes getting passed around.

sorry, whats the issue with the plugin directory name? I have never had any luck changing directory name of any plugin, but why would I want to?

Here is another very good reason for not moving to WP.org.

I have done nothing today but man the forum since 9 this morning to now (9pm) except when I ate lunch and took my dog to the vet. And it was the same yesterday. and slo often the same old questions.

Why would I want more users…?

for the exposure of being the best Cool  of course Wink

actually, you bring up the other side of the double edge sword.  This last week has been hell in the support forum.  Only having a couple hours at night, I have almost no time to work on code and end up answering questions – like you say, mostly the same.

And I haven't had a life for the last few weeks! Found enough time to fix about three small bugs! No time to redesign the site and stil reading the same book I was reading a month ago!

before we can consider this we really do need more hands on support. And being non-commercial I am not sure how you can either tempt or compensate people for that. And Radio wont even let me give him a free ad!
