Need some ideas for the codex front page… with the image area removed, we need a good text introduction…

or maybe could take a page out of the WordPress codex (http://codex.wordpress.org/) and put short intro and maybe a bulleted list of the main page headings…

thoughts?

This is a general comment on the theme, but I find 1200px a bit too wide without a sidebar. The text on the frontpage takes a good amount of effort to scan from left to right. Have you guys considered narrowing it down to say 960px? The WP Codex is based on this width: http://codex.wordpress.org/Before_You_Install

PS. Through it’s powerful needs to be changed 😉

the front page is not done… may get some images… TBD… and should point out that since we removed last night the big image area, I will be adding the sidebar onto the front page too…

960px these days is pretty narrow… and some themes do still hold to that… last study we did on browser widths viewing this site, for example, a good 80 % was viewing at 1280 width or bigger (and was like 4% below 1024px)… for those that view with screen resolutions at 1900 or higher (seems common with monitor sizes these days), the 960 actually makes it harder to view and look like poor design…

that said, we are still tweaking the design so now would be the time for the discussion…
