Add Warning Before Leaving Page

As far as I can tell, there is no existing option to do this, and we've now had a couple requests for it, so I'll just copy what one of our moderators recently said...

"Is there a way to get an error message when you have typed all or part of a reply and you try and leave the page? Something like 'are you sure you want to leave this page?'.  For example, I have started a reply in the past and gone to get a link to add without opening another browser by mistake...and of course lost my post.  And I would bet that when people say that they typed a whole post and it 'disappeared' that they pushed the 'add reply' button instead of the 'submit reply' button."

Make sense? Doable?

Thanks for the consideration!

Actually the browser back button will reinstate any text in the editor if a new page is loaded by mistake.

But - I have wanted to do this for a while. I know that WP does it on the edit post page. However, I have had problems with it in the past which have resulted in forcing me to close down the whole browser... it sometimes gets stuck in a loop!

I will open a ticket on it and at least do some research regarding the technicalities and if it fits the rest of the SP model. I do agree it would be nice to have.

FYI: My reply by email sent over 6 hours ago apparently never posted.

Thank you for the consideration! I too have suggested using the Back button, but we have a couple users who insist that doesn't work, and for some reason are always "losing" their posts.confusedThat solution also doesn't help people experiencing the issue for the first time, if the neglect to try the Back button.

Thanks again!

your email never got to our inbox...  so of course, it was never processed..

btw, this is a slippery slope and not as easy as it sounds...  especially with cross browser and platform (ie mobile) compatibility...

but Andy is on it...
