I’m having an issue converting from bbpress to SPF. I installed the plugin and clicked the importer link then click on bbpress but it is asking for my forum login info… I never had to put this into bbpress. Well I put in my info that was in wp-config.php and when it asked for the bbpress prefix I was confused… All my bbpress topics look like they are in the wp_posts table with a post_type of forums and I’m guessing the replys are in wp_comments? anyways I added wp_ as my prefix and it says it cannot connect to the database.

both databases must be on the same server…
bbpress doesn’t or didnt use the wp posts table… what version of bbpress is this please?
I am using the latest version 2.0.2 and we only have one server. Both databases are the same. I logged into mysql and confirmed the wp_posts table is for both the pages and the forum posts. They are distinguished by the column post_type. For pages it says “pages” and for forum posts it says “forum”. I looked in the bbpress settings and do not see ANYWHERE it gives an option to use its own tables.
OK I had the username wrong but I updated that. In my bb-config.php it shows the bbPress table prefix as wp_bb_ however I do not have ANY tables with that prefix.
After further research all topics / forums / replies are in the wp_posts table with the post_type of either “topic”, “forum”, “reply”
I will have to let Andy jump in here since he did the converters… its possible the latest version of bbpress completely changed the db structure and the converter only works on the previous version…
Will exporting all of those rows for the forums and creating their own table work?
I did the export and gave it its own table and still no luck. Looking at the importer it looks like there needs to be a separate table for topics, replies and forums. It must be the new version or something.
Also why are my posts still awaiting moderation even though I registered?
Your posts were in moderation because we have it set to moderate the first post by a member but as you then wrote more before that one was approved it put them all into moderation.
So this is the new, plugin version of bbPress I take it. You are right that the importer is not built for that but for the older version. I can’t advise on any way to deal with that either as I have not looked at it to see how it does things.
But I’ll write myself a note to get into that as soon as I can. Sorry.
Ok, I found if you go to wordpress admin -> Tools -> Export you can export the forums, topics, replies to xml files. Maybe a plugin can be created to read those xml files?
perhaps. but we dont have such a plugin currently.
we have opened a ticket to get our importer to include ability to import form the newer bbpress plugin too…
sorry, no ETA at this point. our priority is to get 5.0 released. Andy may be able to offer more insight into a timeline since he handles the importer, but it wont be until time permits…
I would like to get this done as soon as I can of course. After the main issue of time – it will involve having to create a forum to use as a test bed and that is a slow and long process. If anyone would care to donate a database for development and testing purposes then that will, of course, speed the process up greatly….

What about sending you the forum, post, reply .xml files and you import them?
the importer works on an existing database… so you could just send us the appropriate ones, but we really need the user and usermeta db tables too… easier for whole file…
