I have about 800 members and about 4000 posts. This showed up at the bottom of the import:

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

Looking in the cPanel error log, I see this: [Fri Oct 07 03:27:54 2011] [error] [client xxx] invalid CGI ref “/500.php” in /problem-with-post-edit-buttonome/xxx/public_html/500.shtml, referer: http://xxx/wp-admin/admin.php?page=sp-import/admin/spimport-setup.php&sys=bbpress

(the wheel is still spinning)

The import eventually finished, but only 1 of the 3 forums look correct. The 2 incorrect forums have only 1 page of topics.

Is there a way to see more debug information?

that says your server threw a 500 error… not sure why… we have imported much, much large databases, so its not a size issue… and not an error that has been reported with the importer previously…

no further information is available when the server errors out like that… it is possible you ran out of php memory… but the processing directive statement makes me wonder…

If you were to reload the db archive and try again, does it occur again?

is this a foreign language import? ie could there be some unicode or non utf character in the post content?

It’s possible there were unicode characters in the db. I tried pulling the entire site offline to localhost and didn’t see the [error processing this directive] error, but the bbpress import still had a few errors.

I then tried a SMF import (I used to run SMF, then imported that to bbPress). At the end of the import it said IMPORT FAILURES: but nothing after it. I actually have more forums that didn’t import properly on my localhost than my live site…

weird, we have hundreds of successful imports and only a couple of failures… obviously we dont import all the data – users, groups, forums, topics and posts…

we had a couple with cyrillic characters that have caused issues but we couldnt duplicate and awaiting an offer of sample database to try and see what is going on…

obviously, the two databases have to be on the same server…

If you want to have a go at it, I certainly don’t mind. I have the entire WordPress, bbPress, and SMF tables g-zipped up in one database and it’s about 12MB. Just let me know where to send it 🙂

Cool, no hurry at all. I’m just grateful for any assistance you guys can provide on the import. Would love to start using SPF  wink

Heya,

I set up a clean WordPress & Simple Forum install and tried the SMF import but it was not able to convert the same 2 forums again. Is there a way to see more verbose logging from the importer?

Tried the bbPress import as well but it’s stuck after creating the user data…

It does sound like a data issue of some sort. I don’t see the database in my piles of emails I have to go through. Did you send it yet?

I did about a week ago – shall I send it again? I sent it to support {AT} simple-press {DOT} com…

Great, thanks for the confirmation. Looking forward to hearing from you guys whenever you have time… eager to get Simple Press up and running as the features look fantastic. cool

Just remembered, my SMF version 2 database might have been an “RC” version – would that cause any issues with the importer you think? (But then again, most of the forums imported properly so it’s probably a data issue as suggested…)

I don’t know why or how, but after trying again the importer managed to convert all my SMF forums over at last! http://kaitech.hk/forum/

  1. What’s wrong with the layout, does that have something to do with the tables I used for the first post?
  2. How can I change the “home” breadcrumb? It’s currently set to ‘wordpress.imac’. (Is there a checklist of things I should do when moving wp_sf tables from localhost to the live site?)
