i had a shout box on our old ubb threads forum. members liked it, i liked it. We'd simply enter random comments, funny stuff, or relevant events coming up.
Is there something similar for SP??
See screen shot from old forum...thanks
Rob
no, but there are many wp plugins or solutions for doing this... no need to recreate the wheel within simple press... just use one of the wp solutions...
thanks...a simple search should give me ideas/options? Or, does anyone have specific suggestions as to an exact plugin recommended? thanks
R
My colleagues may have something to say but personally I have no recommendation as I have never used one. We have seen the odd issue with 'chat' plugins in the past but it seems to have been a long time so hopefully any old problems have been cleaned up.
However - I would strongly suggest you look for ones that are recommended highly by users. Chat plugins can be very, very resource hungry as they need to make frequent and repeated trips to your server - so efficiency is paramount if you don't want to slow your site down noticeably.
I would like to reopen a discussion on developing a SP chat or shoutbox. I believe it would be a great addition to the Simple:Press plugins. I for one would be willing to pay extra for that.
Does anyone here have a good tested recommendation for a suitable WP chat widget or plugin, preferably not an external engine?
I've been using what I believe to be a third party chat box... It seems to work ok.....It's called SushiChat....had my web guy find it and install it...I can sen you his contact info if needed....Not sure if this helps.....Rob
Thanks Robert. Using Chatwee for now. However, it does cost me. I'll look into SushiChat.
there are others as well but personally I have not tried any of them. I do know that some of our users utilise one. I am, myself, wary of them as they can tie up a lot of server resources. To be honest, I very much doubt we are likely to do this but who knows...

Would be nice if you did. I'm now using "Chatroll" and before that, "Chatwee". They are a bit expensive. But just so you know, there is income to be made. At this time, I'm paying $20/month to avoid using our server resources. 🙂
I would prefer paying less and having it on our server though.
We hear you.... everything goes on the list!
