I think that a "clean" design is essencial, so I suggest to combine the buttons of the permlink and the number of post... bassically the idea could be add the funcionality of the "get the permalink to this post" to the number of the post...

either button is filterable to alter the content...
also the post number routine has a getter option so you just have it return the number and then add into the label for the permalink if you so desire...
