Simple:Press Version 5.6 Released

If it is not there already, our users will soon see Simple:Press version 5.6 available in the WordPress update page alongside updates to our themes and a large number of our plugins. Please note that these are all interdependent so if you update the core Simple:Press you will need to update themes and plugins as well.

Not much to say that wasn’t said last week except to remind users with custom themes based upon Unified and Reboot that there are changes needed to their style files. The best information and links are in the previous post which you can read here.

Hopefully is just a stupid question…: when I upgrade will I still be able to set Italian as the language of the forum for Reboot? Or do I have to re-translate it all? Thanks!

What ever translation you have set will remain in place…  if any new strings were added to core, plugins or themes, you may need to update the translation…  all our stuff has been updated on our glotpress site and any new strings are ready for translation…

Done the update of SP, plugins and Reboot theme. Also back to 100% with the translation in Italian of Reeboot. All working fine so far 😉

Hello!

I have a question about update (sorry if this is not the right topic to ask). I have tried to update my SP as always (in plugins page) and than I went to Forum -> Update Simple:Press. It says there that Iam attempting to downgrade and won’t let me continue. Plugins page is still offering me SP update, but it says that I currently have “old” version 5.6 and its possible to update to 5.6 Build 13657

Any ideas what might went wrong? Or tips to solve this issue so forum is accessible again?

WordPress is updated to 4.4

Thank you for your time.

in both cases, it would also show you the build info which is more critical than the version…

did the updated version download and install right?  just not the upgrade?

Well I think it’s all downloaded. Total commander says that all files and folders (as far as I can tell) were modified today at the time of update. So it’s possible that it was installed? There are also files like sp-update.php and they contain upgrade routines up to 5.6

Full message from update page is here:

It appears you are attempting to downgrade your Simple:Press Version. The Build or Version number in the sp-control.php file is lower than the currently installed version in the database.

You must restore your database to this earlier version before you can continue. You cannot simply downgrade Simple:Press files as the database has been upgraded beyond the version you are attempting to downgrade to and may cause irreparable damage to the database.

No, I meant before the upgrade…  it would have told what version/build you had and what version/build you would upgrade too…

you could look in your db, the sfoptions table and see what the values are for sfbuild and sfversion…  and then compare to those in the sp-control.php file in your simple-press wp plugins folder…

To be honest I dont remember version/build info before upgrade 🙁

db – version: 6.0 ; build:12969

sp-control.php – version: 5.6 ; build: 13657

Now Iam really confused by that db version :O

well, actually…  its clear now – or at least more clear…

several releases ago, we actually mistakenly pushed out a misnamed 6.0 version…  only a handful of folks actually grabbed it before we caught it…  and in subsequent releases, we handled that particular upgrade case for the handful of users who did got it so the upgrade would proceed…

but oddly, hadnt thought we removed that special upgrade code yet… but perhaps we did… will have to check on that…

what you should be able to do is change that sfversion number in your database to  be 5.5.10 or something… and the upgrade will proceed…  upgrades are really based on build number…

Really liking the new changes, especially going to profiles directly.
