its pretty explanatory…  you had simple press installed previously…  now you are trying to switch to an older version of the software which is not possible since the database schemas are not compatible…

just grab the latest version of simple press from our download page…

Hi, I am facing the same issue.

Now when I download the latest SP version from your site and install on my site, it says –

Destination folder already exists. /home4/copywri8/public_html/almanack/wp-content/plugins/simple-press/

Plugin install failed.

—————-

I cannot delete the existing SP from my site because with that, all my Forum content will go.

What’s the solution? Please help!

Regards,

Vishal

That is not the same thing at all…

If you have downloaded the latest version then you probably need to use ftp to upload to your server.

Either way you need to either remove the SP plugin folder and files (wp-content/plugins/simple-press) – or  you need to overwrite it with the latest version.

WordPress will not allow you to use the ‘install’ options top create a folder that already exists. SImple as that.

to extend further Andy’s comments… removing your plugin does not affect your data or options in anyway….  those are all stored elsewhere…  any time wordpress updates a plugin, the old copy is removed first…

So it is not possible to downgrade ever?

Hey Jeremy,

I’m not sure why you’ve added this on the end here, although you’ve also had a downgrade issue the problem you have is not relevant. For the future we only provide support in the support forum (Simple:Press 5 – Member Support) so you would need to open a topic there.

As it happens, this topic appeared the other day that you might find useful, but if you can’t get it working, please open up a topic in our support forum.

 Hi,

Thanks for responding. I edited my irrelevant post to something more relevant because i actually ran across the thread after about 30 minutes, the reason i posted is because i was having trouble even viewing the forums, it was just kicking me out instantly (even though i was logged in.) So i figured i would modify my post for ease.

It is frustrating using an application with plugins i’ve paid for and cannot get support for.

Thanks for the help!

the downgrade warning simply means you have tried to go backwards in versions.. ie from 1.5 to 1.4… however, database upgrades have already occurred… if you went back to 1.4 (versions just for example), the code wont be compatible with the changes already made to your system…

why would you want to go backwards in versions?  and it has nothing to do with the plugin addons – its a message about core version of simple press..
