My widgets didn't work so I tried re installing the plugin. Now I get this message...The folder name of this plugin has become corrupted - probably due to multiple downloads. Please remove the 1 at the end of the folder name. The proper folder name should be template-tags.

I've done what it said but now I have 2 corrupted files and can't delete them, any suggestions?

Why can you not delete them? It has to be done otherwise WordPress will not load them properly at all.

When WordPress performs a download of a plugin or theme, it downloads, copies and them removes the original download. Sometimes it fails to perform that removal of the original. Then when you download a second copy your computer OS will add a '-1' top the end etc. There MUST be only a single copy in the SP plugins folder and it does need to have the correct name - like all plugins. So - why are you unable to delete one of them and rename the other? You would need to use your FTP account or - the file manager that will be bundles with your website control panel.

May I ask if you are the 'Sara' that has sent us some email questions - including a second email regarding template tags? If so we have replied to each and every one - including earlier this morning - and they all get bounced back stating that the email address you have used can not be found. We keep getting emails from the server attempting to deliver them to you but they all fail.

I was hoping you would read this having asked the question but I have now had yet another email from you which I will be unable to answer.

I am happy to address the question in your email (all of them!) but you will HAVE to sort out your email address inbox - OR - supply another email address.

I've tried to amend my email address but every time I click amend, it goes back to the wrong one.  The email address you have has a 1 missing before the @   Sorry, I must have had a blonde moment.  I've re installed the plugin now (still got the corupted ones which I can't dlete but thats okay.  My big problem is there is only one widget, not all the ones listed.

There is only the one widget and this is clearly stated on the store page for the plugin. All of the rest come in the form of template tags and shortcodes. The main problem with widgets is the code bloat so we supply tags and shortcodes for now,.

Documentation for how to use the tags and shortcodes can be found here: https://simple-press.com/docum.....gs-plugin/

Shortcodes should function in text widgets as will template tags if you install a plugin like ezphp (https://wordpress.org/plugins/ezphp/)

Thank you for replying.  We assumed we were getting widgets, not instructions on how to make our own.  We're new to all this and can't do anything with the one we've got. Shortcodes are completely beyond us. Thanks anyway.

Shortcodes are as simple as widgets. And the codex page tells you exactly what to enter - which is usually just a very short name.

Simple to you perhaps Mr Papa but I've been trying for hours and it's no good, the instructions might as well be in Greek 🙂  Maybe one day I'll get it but my poor brain is maxed out for now.

what happens?  I guess its possible you are using an old theme that has not enabled shortcode use in widgets, but that is the norm these days...  when done, you just enter the shortcode in a text widget and it works...

this, of course, did not use to be the case and you had to enable it in themes... today most themes auto enable it... if you have an old theme that does not support it, you can still do it... here is an article (its 5 years old) on how to enable for such a theme: https://wordpress.org/support/.....n-a-widget
