inline images vs attachments

Hi all,

I’ve already read something, but due to my bad english, I’d need a definitive reply to get well.

I need to show inline images in my forum, allowing my members to upload images from their pc.

If I got well, the term inline mean, to show the image directly opened as appear in a blog post: so, yes if I got well, I need this. My forum will be extremely visual focused, so I guess there will be more photos than words almost.

In the simple press plugins page I read:

Image, Media and File Uploader

Add a sophisticated and easy to use image, media and file uploader so your users can add images and attachments to their posts.

Does it mean I can upload both images and attachments……or I can upload images in the attachments way?

Hope I managed to explain myself, and hope for your answer

thanks in advance

It can upload images, media and files…  each have their own permissions so you can enable just one, two or all three…

Images and media are shown inline in the post content…  files are always as attachments for download below the post… by default, images and media are also show as attachments for download, but that can be disabled…

Thanks for your reply.

I’m really sorry I look very stubborn, but please let me ask just one question cause I still didn’t understand properly.

Now, refering just to images, I’d need to know if my forum’s users can upload images from their folders, from their pc and that will appear inline.

I gave a look to some forums powered by simple press and I saw some inline images, but they were uploaded by an online storage website.

The majority of my users I really don’t think they would be able to do that, so I just need the most simple way they are used from other forum, meaning to upload their photos from their pc folders and other users to see those photos inline.

Thanks for your time and assistance

that’s a great news, thank you.

I found this following website/forum which run  simple press and in a discussion a member asks how to upload images from pc folders.

Here the answer the admin gave:

http://www.ctoa.net/forum/site-questions-and-help-and-features/cant-upload-images/

and here a kind of tutorial to do it step by step:

http://www.ctoa.net/problem-with-post-edit-buttonow-to-upload-image-in-forums/

Hope it will be helpful to other users too.

Would I achieve that way installing the plugin for images?

Cause it looks different from the default simple press design.

I’m not familiar with all old versions of SP but this one looks like it hasn’t been updated in a long time. Inspecting things shows the prefix of ‘sf’ instead of ‘sp’ from when the forum was called ‘simple forum’ so this is going back by the look of it (although I could be wrong).

However, yes – you can achieve image uploads in this fashion using the file uploader plugin.

yikes!  image uploading is much easier now…  click on add image button, computer browser opens, select file and upload… then save post…

Thank you,

I’m very glad I’ve found this support-forum otherwise I would be hanging around in hundreds of other websites looking for some vague opinions

hello can someone help me asap – can you upload images to the simple press forum through a mobile phone? or does it have to be a laptop

Yes you can. One or two people have had an issue with older versions of Safari on iPhones but I use an iPhone and have no problem with doing this now. And in my experience Safari is a lousy browser anyway! I do not believe we have had any reports of problems with Android based phones – at least I do not remember any.

I would start by trying a different browser and if that doesn’t help then there is probably a script conflict with the mobile side of your website. That can happen depending on the Wp theme or other plugins abiding by the WP API and rules but can, sadly, be really hard to find… although you can use a browser like Chrome on your desktop and run it in mobile mode to test things.

thank you – i think it must be the script conflict then as between us we have tried all the browsers! Uploading images from mobiles is an integral function of our site – we have recently moved over from buddy press as we were having problems on that also

Is there any other solution to this?

Only removing components one at a time, clearing the browser cache and then trying in between each item removed remembering that the culprit might be your WP theme. Although you can connect an iPhone to a desktop version of Safari (Mac) and use the script console on the desktop to interrogate what is happing ion the phone.
