I'm currently trying to install simple-press on my host.
From my initial experience, it seems like it's not compatible with pg4wp (PostgreSQL for Wordpress), is this correct?
During installation, I receive the following error messages.

Having followed this to the letter, the same error messages still appear, leading me to think my DB is the culprit here (it doesn't seem to create any tables).
If so, is there anything that can be done about it or should I just give up and move on (switching databases is simply not an option for me)?
Having not heard of pg4wp myself I went off to take a look.. It seems that if you want to run a different kind of database you need a 'driver', although they do say on their write up on the WP plugin directory that the MySQL driver is included.
"please feel free to contact the author, writing a driver is not really hard if you know a bit about SQL and the database you want support for."
They also say
"Some WordPress plugins should work 'out of the box' but many plugins won't because they would need specific code in PG4WP"
I would consider contacting them to see if they can give you some advice and get you up and running..
Hi there, Ike.
Thanks for getting back to me quickly.
I've already set everything up and installed the required driver. My Wordpress setup is already using PostgreSQL, as I didn't even install MySQL.
The problem is solely with Simple-Press, as it will always post error messages like "[Storage location part 1 creation failed] – You will need to manually create a required a folder named: /Applications/mappstack-5.4.37-0/apache2/problem-with-post-edit-buttontdocs/wordpress2/wp-content/sp-resources" during installation.
Manually adding the folder doesn't really seem to do anything. The rest of the file structure has also been added by the installer itself, so I assume that this is a database issue and that the installer is simply not aware that everything has been installed already.
Well creating the folders - which has failed here - has nothing to do with the database. This is just down to permissions on your server under the wp-content folder and what appears tp be an unwillingness on your servers part to unzip the zip files which contain folders and files. All of which does not involve the database.
But... you say no tables and db records were created during the install which is obviously not right as we create quite a few tables. So would assume that something would still be needed for SP to co-operate with your postgreSQL db.
I wont even ask what you have against mySQL

I've just installed a MySQL powered stack and things immediately started working there.
Permissions on both directories are the same, so it's definitely a DB issue.
I'm going to try and manually recreate the whole schema inside postgresql when I got some time, though I'm not sure whether this would solve anything or just be an incredible waste of time.

Well. It lacks a decent procedural language like Postgre's PL/pgSQL or Oracle's PL/SQL.
The default UI (phpmyadmin) is also quite horrible, though I've just found out about MyWebSQL, which does somewhat alleviate this (the interface is way more logical than phpmyadmin. Kinda similar to Postgre's phppgadmin, even).
so I am now curious to now why so I do hope you are able to solve it.
I think that mySQL is growing up fast actually. It has become so much more robust and more 'pro' featured in the last few years and who knows where Oracle might take it. Well - as long as I never have to use Oracle again I will be happy so I don't want it to go there!
I agree 100% about phpMyAdmin though. A brave attempt and again - better than it used to be - bit clunky. I will look up myWebSQL - that's a new one on me.
