SimplePress Compatible With BuddyPress?

Greetings,

I am interested in using SimplePress and purchasing a membership. However, I want to make sure that the plugin is known to work ok with the BuddyBoss Boss theme. Have you any reports that SimplePress works well with that theme?

Thanks Much.

depends what you mean by is it compatible with BuddyPress…  they coexist together just fine… We also have a buddypress integration plugin for simple press that allows sharing of profile information, avatars, activity stream, and more…

as to the Boss theme, not sure what that is…  But simple press works with just about any wp theme…  forum display is simply on a wp page… so whatever page template you use for that wp page will govern how it appears on the page…

now, very few wp themes have specific styling for a simple press forum..  so we provide a variety of themes and color overlays for you choose from…  to perfectly match the color style of your wp theme, you might want to customize your sp theme…   but customizing your sp theme is like customizing a wp theme…

Thanks much for the fast answer.

Sounds like the plugin will take care of what I was wanting for integration with BuddyPress. I will spend some time with installing today.

Thanks again!

FYI: Out of the box SimplePress does not work with the Boss theme… It works on cell phone size but does a weird thing in desktop size where the top menu bar of the theme is stuck about 3/4 the way down the pages.

Hoping someday that your forum plugin will work with the boss theme:

Really hate getting stuck using bbpress but looks like I have no choice. I am sure that your forums work well with other themes but I am unable to switch to a different theme at this time.

Great forums you have though! 🙂

what does ‘top menu bar of the theme is stuck about 3/4 the way down the pages’ mean???

yes, simple press works with any standard wp theme properly following the wp api and standards…

 Hi,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you…

“what does ‘top menu bar of the theme is stuck about 3/4 the way down the pages’ mean???”

The top menu bar of the BuddyBoss Boss theme is no longer at the top of a page. Instead it is displayed about 3/4 the way down the page no matter where the page is scrolled up or down.

Unfortunately I had to remove the plugin from my main site.

I did mention this problem at the developers site. Not sure if they will be putting any effort to resolve this as they replied to another person that “SimplePress is not compatible with their theme.”

I will for sure down the road re-check if anyone has found a solution to the problem at their site.

Thanks

would have to be able to inspect the css – likely just a greedy css rule in the wp theme which could be countered in the forum…

I just got permission from my boss to take a little time this morning and setup a test site so we can pursue the problem. I will post here as soon as its ready. smile

OK – let us know. And meanwhile also have a little play with the display integeration options on the page and permalink admin panel. Try then all – they do not harm.

Got it to work!

Ok, after a few hours of pulling my hair out with a test site here is what I found…

1… With my main site, it had the previously mentioned problems with the BuddyBoss Boss theme. However, if I switched to any other theme there was no problems which let me to believe it was the Boss theme.

2… With the new test site I had only the boss theme, buddypress and SimplePress.  In this case it worked just fine. Which then led me to believe that there is a plugin that caused a problem only in the case of = “Unknown plugin” + “BuddyBoss theme” + “Simple:Press”. – Began removing most of my plugins one by one. But nothing changed, same problem.

3… Began trying different settings within Simple:Press. FINALLY, tried the setting of “Integration – Theme Display Options – Limit forum display to within WP loop” and everything fine. surprised

So now that I have finally found a solution, my question is: “Is using this setting ok? Without any side effects?”

Absolutely fine. It is there to help deal with non-standard themes that do things that they feel are – shall we say – clever!

 Hello team!

So sorry for my bad english.

Thank you dave, but your tips didn’t work for me.

So left panel without simplepress : http://reseau.emploiculturel.net/

Left panel with simplepress: http://reseau.emploiculturel.net/forum/#

(try to use it to consider the issue)

But i’m not premium member of simple press and don’t have buddypress pluggin… I test simplepres with boss theme before buying membership…

I just try  Limit forum display to within WP loop, but maybe forgot another setting?

Thank you!

Hey Spectacteur,

I’m not sure I’m seeing a problem with either of those links? Comparing them side by side the only difference I can see is one displays the forum, no behaviour similar to that posted by DaveAllen at least..

So sorry, it’s not the same issue, i don’t anderstand because my bad english.

Because of a false setting, unregistered user can’t see the issue..

Now you can see…

And so, in the footer of the page, you can see “view as mobile”, or “view as desktop”. Only “view as desktop on simplepress page.

And if you are in mobile view, on simple press page, nothing happend with two icon on the top left and right corner…
