SimplePress integration with MyCred and some sort of social login?

I'm excited to discover SimplePress! I don't know how I missed its existence all these years.

I'm intending on implementing some upgrades on my site whereby my main objectives are:

1) gamification -- rewarding users for interacting with my site, commenting on posts, etc. I think I can handle what I need using MyCred

2) forums -- SimplePress seems awesomely suited for this! And it integrates with MyCred, I see. 🙂

3) social login -- the ability for site visitors to log in using Facebook to leave comments without having to register with a new username/password. I was going to use Ultimate Member and their Social Login extension to accomplish this, but I don't see Ultimate Member having any integration with SimplePress.

So my question is: can SimplePress integrate with Ultimate Member so I can use the social login feature?  Or is there a way to have SimplePress accept some sort of social login?

And if anyone has any experience integrating SimplePress with MyCred or any examples therein, I'd love to hear how well it works.

Also: how well do blog post comments integrate with SimplePress? Is there a way to use SimplePress as the commenting system for blog posts?

Thanks in advance!

Hi:

Thanks for checking out Simple-Press.  Here are the answers to your questions:

1. Yes, you can integrate with MyCred.  We also have our own simple gamification options:

https://simple-press.com/downl.....on-plugin/

https://simple-press.com/downl.....eputation/

3.  We don't have any social login option of our own but I don't see why other social logins will not work.  Our logins use the general WP login system so as long as the user is logged in they are also logged into the forums.

As far as Ultimate Member goes, I have not personally used it or installed. BUT, if they have the ability to set roles for users then those roles can be mapped to forum permissions.  So if Ultimate Member can set a role called "level 1" for example, you can create special permissions in the forum for level 1 roles.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Thank you SO MUCH for the super fast response! I understand that SimplePress is changing ownership so I'm even more impressed with how quickly you replied to my inquiry.

I am going to do more research on using a standalone social login plugin (looking at Heateor's https://wordpress.org/plugins/.....ocializer/ ) and I'll also look at the two add-ons you linked for me.

I'm enthused by the features and what appears to be top-notch support. Odds are good you'll see my name on an invoice receipt in the next few days. 🙂

I discovered another question, if I may:  is there any way of knowing if Simple:Press would be compatible with WPAchievements ( https://wpachievements.net )?

I'm exploring the few gamification plugins I can find. MyCred is so far leading the pack, but WPAchievements has some intriguing features (like Quests) which the others don't seem to have.

Hi:

We don't have an official integration with that plugin so the short answer to your question is "no".  You'd likely need a custom plugin to integrate with it (assuming they have the requisite hooks and filters and documentation).

But one thing to keep in mind is that even though a lot of codecanyon plugin and theme products have great features and look pretty, they tend to have an above average rate of incompatibility with other plugins and themes.  So unless its absolutely necessary to get a product there its best to avoid them (at least in my experience).

Thanks.

Thank you very much for that insight! I will bear that in mind when weighing these options.

In that case, would Simple:Press be compatible with GamiPress as an alternative? I'm guessing there's no built-in integration, but at least GamiPress appears to be a solid commercial product. I see they are bbPress compatible, but from everything I've seen, Simple:Press is far superior.

Hi:

Unfortunately I've never heard of, or used, GamiPress so I really don't have input into it.  I looked it up on WordPress.org and it seems like people are generally happy with it and there is ongoing support for it.  But as you suspect, there's no pre-built integration with Simple:Press at this time.  With 50,000+ plugins out there, the question of "are you compatible with xyz" tends to be answered with a "we don't know" more often than not. We try to make sure we're compatible with the top 25 plugins on WordPress.org (generally those with millions of installs or a high 6 digit install count) but anything beyond that is a guess until you try it (or someone needs it enough to fund the development of a plugin for it).

Wish I had a better answer for you.

Thanks.

Absolutely understandable. I apologize for being a pest when asking these things!

I did reach out to GamiPress too, and received a response:

Of course, there will be an integration between GamiPress and Simple:Press soon

And is expected to be released in a few weeks

Interestingly, WPAchievements also lists Simple:Press among "Integrations and Supported Plugins" on their Features page: https://wpachievements.net/features/

So it sounds like there might be more developers becoming aware of and seeking compatibility with your forums than realized! This is great news. 🙂
