How do I display the topic’s first post author in the forum view as well as the last post author?
I’ve looked at the template API but can’t find what I’m looking for.
Also, is there a way to make topics with new posts show up a different background colour as well as having the icon?
sorry, not sure I follow… you said forum view… by default our themes show post author for both first post and last post… except for maybe iforum which is a unique beast… what sp theme?
what is your definition of new?? since it differs for every viewer of the forum, and for guests would be every post, this would be quite odd and well, never requested before… could be quite prohibitive from cpu perspective… we do flag topics that have unread, but posts are a different story…

I was using iForum but have switched to the standard theme, so no need for a solution to point 1 any more.
I was asking that every topic or forum with unread threads (for that member) would show up a different colour to distinguish it from the rest. The current icon blends a little too much with the background.
Well in forum view (for example) – the list of topics in any one forum – then a topic with unread posts is given a row level class of ‘spUnreadPosts’ so you should be able to add that class to your theme styles and have it display in a different colour.
