Did you genuinely use the uninstall option or did you just delete the code file of the plugin?

I’m pretty new to this but I clicked on ‘deactivate’ then ‘delete’. I don’t believe I saw an option for ‘uninstall’.

This is the case when you’re not logged in as a Simple:Press admin. You can be a WordPress admin but not a Simple:Press admin as they are completely separate entities.

You said you’ve re-installed – How exactly did you do that? If you just deleted the plugin then things will remain in the database including things like admin capabilities linked to users, so if you’ve used a different account this time then you won’t be a Simple:Press admin.

There is an uninstall option with confirmation which removes everything that should be used for a complete removal.

You can check your capabilities in the database – Find out what your user ID is, look at xxx_usermeta table and check the meta value of the capabilities row.

I just deleted on the plugin page (deactivate, then delete).

I’m sorry but I’m not even sure where to find the database or what meta values are. A friend recommended SP because it was simple to use! 🙂

Any more details would be much appreciated!

it is easy to use…  it starts with permissions… are you the wp admin who installed simple press?  if not, please log in as the wp admin who installed and on forum – admins – manage admins, you can add more sp admins…  by definition, wp admins are not sp admins… and if there are no sp admins, all wp admins are given access…  so you should have another user that is an sp admin…

I understand about the WP/SP admin issue, Mr Papa. the problem is there isn’t an admin menu on the forum page for me to edit the SP admins. I used the “uninstall” button last night which has deleted all the files, and reinstalled the .zip file this morning. Now, the menu is still missing and on the plugin page under SP it says in red: Simple:Press is READY TO BE REMOVED. When you deactivate it ALL DATA WILL BE DELETED

If I add you as an admin would you take a look and see what I’m missing please?

I assume you clicked Uninstall from the WP plugin listing? Then you would have had a popup asking for confirmation and stating that ‘all forum data will be removed WHEN you deactivate the plugin’.

Then when the plugin listing page reloads you get what you see. It says clearly – ALL DATA WILL BE REMOVED. That is what uninstalling means. Remove all forum data.

Deactivate SP then reactivate and reinstall.

After reinstaling it still has the warning: Simple:Press is READY TO BE REMOVED. When you deactivate it ALL DATA WILL BE DELETED

Uninstall – reload plugin page – Deactivate – reload plugin page

What did the forum menu offer you?

Yes. uninstall – reload page – deactivate – delete plugin – reupload plugin – activate…

it still gives me only “Admins – Your admin options” with 4 boxes on a list I can check or uncheck.

As a side note, after reuploading the plugin and clicking activate from the upload screen it came back with an error saying the plugin didn’t have a valid header. I had to activate from the plugin page.

You can attach images here using the ‘Attachments’ button underneath the editor.

Two quick things come to mind.. Firstly, how are you ‘uploading / reuploading’, through FTP? If not that is the next thing to try, download the core plugin and upload via FTP.

Also, have you got any other plugins running? It really shouldn’t matter but it’s possible that something is interfering somewhere along the line so at least just to rule it out you should disable every other plugin and try installing again.

I reckon the problem here is that your MySQL has been set by your host not to allow us to delete tables. The uninstall removes data (NOT code or the actual plugin). This means all of the forum tables. What you are seeing means quite certainly that the forum tables have NOT been removed on the uninstall. You should ask your host about delete privileges on  your mySQL server database.

Just got off phone with godaddy. We went through the uninstall/reinstall process, he looked through mysql and said after uninstall he couldn’t see anything left from simplepress. All appeared to be gone.

Same issue after reinstall.

after this uninstall, was all the forum menu gone?

afraid we would have no idea what is going on if you really did uninstall and then reinstalled with this very same user account…  next step would be to check the database tables and try making a manual modification to the wp user meta data of this account…

for the user in question (assume yours and the same account the sp install was done from), look in the wp_usermeta table (your prefix might be other than wp_) and find the entry for your user id and the meta_key of wp_capabilities (the wp_ should match your wpdb prefix) would be interesting to see the value of the meta_value is…
