I want new members to automatically join one of our usergroups ie xbox, PS, PC, based on what platform they play on. Is there a way for the registration to ask these questions like a drop down menu where they can pick what platform, then based on that they are automatically put into one of the usergroups?

The registration processing is not a part of Simple:Press but is all handled and controlled by WordPress.
The best way to achieve what you are asking for would probably be some sort of simple membership plugin where you can control what WordPress ‘role’ users are placed in. If the plugin sticks to WP standards AND the WP API (as it should) then when the WP ‘role’ is allocated – this can be mapped to a Simple:Press user group. This is, in effect, what we do on this site to differentiate gold and silver members and setting it up is much easier than it sounds.
There is, in fact, a ‘How To FAQ’ on out codex covering this although that uses WishList Member for the membership plugin. There are quite a few others and probably simpler ones I believe.
that would be verey time consuing suince there are like over 3000 members..I was hoping that I could edit the registration menu so new guys HAD to pick what platfiorm they played on…like a radio button..this in turn put them into those user groups..
I am unsure what would be time consuming and once again – the registration arena is not a part of Simple:Press. Actually – I rather think the method I suggested could be made to work quite well and probably with not too much effort. But failing that you could probably utilise something like Theme My Login which I believe allows for select options. Or indeed it is also something that could be added to the forum users profile quite easily but then there would be nothing mandatory about that.
There is also an option when creating (or editing) a user group that you as admin can set that allows users to join themselves to a forum user group – again on their SP user profile panel.
