I would like to add the administrator of the forum to the moderator user group so that the name appears as both at the bottom of the forum.
When I try to “add new” to the moderator user group, the admin name is not listed.

Unfortunately no an admin can’t be made a moderator. Since an SP admin can do everything, there is no need for them to be part of a usergroup, which is all a moderator is – a user in a usergroup with moderator permissions..
I would add that it is possible to remove admin from a user and add them to a moderator usergroup that gets every permission set… this would get them probably 98% of admin functionality…
but they cannot be both admin and moderator… that would be pretty confusing…
is there a reason you want to do that? we might be able to offer other suggestions…
