Compatability PHP 5.4.29 & MySQL 5.6.17 / upgrading wordpress/Simple press

Hello,

My hosting company has advised me they are upgrading the PHP platform, to 5.4.29 and also at the same time MySQL to 5.6.17.

I am running a combination of WordPress 3.4.2 & Simple Press Version 5.1.4

Do you know if these two are compatible with PHP 5.4.29 and MySQL 5.6.17.

I suppose the reason I havent updated both WordPress and SimplePress yet is my concern about lack of compability with plugins & my theme.

Also I am not sure if I should be updating WordPress first or Simple Press

Any guidance would be much appreciated

No problem with the version of php as far as Simple:Press goes. No problem with that mySQL as far as either SP or WP goes.

Being that far behind with WP updates is worrying. if nothing else there have been some security updates since that version that all users should try and install.

The only potential problem – and I may be out by a few versions here – is that I know the PHP people are dropping support for the standard, old mySQL php library and only now supplying the mySQLi library. WP 3.9 supports this but no earlier versions of WP do. I am just not sure which version of php is actually dropping this support. Your host should know.

As to which to update first. I would think WordPress.

Hi,

Many thanks for the quick reply.

I will get hold of them and pose the question on the mySQL library .  I will post back here to help those who are not on WP3.9 as I’m sure at some point their providers will be upgrading their mySQL.

Thanks again

I have just been informed by the hosting provider that mySQL version 5.6.17 supports regular mySQL libraries as well
