The upgrade is still going but very, very slowly.

I have two boxes below the progress bar: a blue one and a white one.

The blue one has:

Upgrade Aborted

What should I do? Just continue waiting or any other thing?

  • I have wp 3.3.1
  • I’m upgrading from SP 4.4.5

Thanks for your help

no, it only takes a few seconds – 20 top…  what happens if you restart it?  does it go further…

keep your db backup from before you upgraded as we may want to try this again…

If I restart, it just keeps aborting and showing the error msgs.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Yes – we have had a couple of users where the upgrade script failed to update the SP permissions (actually the sfroles table). Despite much testing and actually being given a users database to try it ourself we have been unable to track it down and it is just two or three people. and now yours is showing the same symptoms.
Would you be able to restore your database to try it again from scratch?

Nop. I do not have a back up.

I guess I’ll have to 1) remove my forum or 2) start from scratch with a new one.

Am I right?

you could.. but if you have lots of posts, that would not be pleasant…

you should, as we suggest, always make a db backup when upgrading wp, themes or plugins…

it is possible to reset the permissions to an expected state…  on forum – permissions – manage permissions, you can create the permissions once again…

I decided to remove the plugin and start over, but I think I’m stacked at the same problem.

After uploading the zip and clicnking on Activate Plugin, WP shows the message: “The plugin does not have a valid header.”

Your advice, please?

I have been told recently that this is a common WordPress error when installing a plugin via the zip uploader that has sub-folders (as SP does).
If you go to the actual plugins page are you able to then activate it?

Yes , it does. But then it tries to upgrade again.

Probably because of the old database still there…

What do you suggest?

what do you mean again?  if you just added the plugin, it will try to ugprade from old one…

are you wanting to complete remove?  thought you said you uninstalled?  via the sp admi panel?  this would have removed the data…

Bottom line is that the upgrade did not work for me.

According to your answers above, the only solution is to restore an old db and try again.

Please let me know what tables are part of SP and I will manually take care of this mess.

If you have any other solution, please also let me know that.

Thanks

Fixed it!

Took a backup file from a couple of days ago, copy and pasted the sections only for wp_sf* tables and the upgrade completed succesfully in less than a minute

You have a great product guys. I really appreciate your efforts!

Cheers,

G

Wow – that is good news. Good plan.

Just in case it is the same problem, my upgrade also failed but that was because I had mod_evasive (Apache module) enabled and had not whitelisted my server’s IP so it was blocking the upgrade script.

mod_evasive?? wow, never heard of that one…  seems better enabled only when needed wink  a lot of scripts or ones that use ajax may have problems with that…  certainly our install or upgrade will as you note since we send multiple ajax requests fairly quickly at that time…
