I really wanted to take this opportunity to thank Brandon, Yellowswordfish for launching the SPV5.

I had posted here around 4 months back as I was looking for an alternative to my bbpress forum which is quite primitive and won't be able to handle the traffic given the rate at which my website is growing.

I had installed SPV5 in November but it was too clunky at that time. I didn't feel like "Whoa! This is what I was looking for".

In the next 3 months, I considered various alternatives-mybb, phbb and host of other forums.I, in fact, installed mybb on my website as there were two user integration plugin- wordbb and forums by zingri.

However, both the plugins sucked big time as the user integration was not good.

How badly I wanted a great forum is that I even contacted the lead developers of mybb and was ready to pay him for integrating and he had agreed but he's very pressed for time and one week turned to another and to another.

I did not want to outsource the project on any freelancing website simply because integrating something like mybb required a high level of expertise which is not easy to find

All this time, I was constantly checking whether SPV5 has gone live or not but to my disappointment, it seeemed to be hanging in beta phase forever.

March 1: I was browsing through the internet and just thought of logging on to simple-press.org to see whether SPV5 has been launched and I was happy to see that yes it has been launched.

Went through all the changes and installed it on my website and heck , i almost jumped in joy when I saw my forums! This was really great, I thought. No code conflicit, nothing. All I had to do was just change the theme.

The best thing I like about SPV5 is that it seems to be much faster than the earlier version. Simply superb! Exactly what I need!

I'll donating to simple-press tomorrow just as way of saying thank you to developers for being so dedicated to the project.

It's incredibly heartening to see that all the developers are so prompt in replying to queries in forums here, something which is very unusual for a small team which has multiple things to take care of not to mention their own personal lives 🙂

My suggestions : SPV5 really deserves to reach out to more people and the key to doing that is listing the plugin on wordpress.org. I just wonder that why hasn't that been done that. If it is done, then I think that simple press will grow exponentially.

Quite a long post, but I think that SPV5 and its developers deserved it!

guess I am just chopped liver! winklaughkiss

but thanks for the very kind words! V5 has been a year in the making and lots of hard work!  we did stay in beta/RC about 2 months longer than planned but it was worth it!  very solid release with only few issues...  5.0.1 just released but no major gotchas yet eek

When you finish up that awesome custom theme you are working on, let us know...  We are going to have to redo our showcase page for 5.0...

Me? I am way late in coming to the table with SP5. As Mr Papa says V5 has been a year, or more, in the making long before I got involved.

Mr Papa and Yellow Sword Fish deserve all the credit but I do agree with you that anyone who wants to have a forum on a WP site should use Simple:Press. I have looked at and tested other forum alternatives but have not seen any that can do what I need like Simple:Press does.

Am incredibly sorry for not mentioning Mr Papa in the first post. It's blasphemous to not thank him.

@Mr Papa

I will definitely let you know once my forum is done. My query went answered though : Are you planning to list simple-press on wordpress.org ? Why or why not ?

I am feeling really emotional given the fact that my months of frustration has come to end today. Now that SPV5 is here, I hope that others in future won't have to waste time searching for alternatives like I did and being thurst upon with bbpress which is just useless. That may sound harsh on bbpress but that's what it is, based on my experience with it for the last 5 months.

The 'bb' in bbPress stands for bulletin board (I assume) and that is what it is - more like an older style bulletin board. And - to be fair - it does that very well. It is very lightweight and punchy. If you need a little more in the way of forum type 'features' then we think we provide that side of the coin.

We are not in the WordPress plugin repository simply because the WP organisation insists that you host your source code on their servers and we, quite simply, prefer not to as this can be very restrictive. We re not alone in this - there are a large number of plugin authors who prefer to maintain their own source code repositories and we and they have long suggested that Wp could still list plugins like ours - but they prefer not to.

We hope SP works out for you!

Finally I have fired up the forums on my website. And it looks terrific I think just a couple of changes  and I'll be all done. Mr Papa said that the showcase is being redone . I would like my forums to feature in the Showcase, not for publicity at all but for showing others how nice can Simple-press can look . The first thing I see whenever I see any forum software is not the features but the "showcase" as it indicates what all possibilities are there with that particular forum.

Also I want to donate to Simple-Press no but I don't want my name to appear in the Honor's roll. I can donate anonyomously also but the large list of donors in the Honor's list will really motivate future donors so it would be good if I can add one more name to that list 🙂 Is it possible that only my company's name appear in the Honor's roll ?

Donations - always welcome of course - do not have to include your name or even a website if you prefer.

We will be launching our new -re-vamped site very soon now and one of the tasks after the launch is to freshen up the showcase page so please do send an email using our contact page (Information menu) and let us have your site address and I will make sure it is on the list with a few others we also have who have made the offer.

So - thanks for both!
