Ok, I’ve discovered the Private Messaging toolbox and yes I see she has “No” under “Can PM”.  How do I change that to Yes? The only icons I see related to deleting things.

does this member have permission to view members, watch topics, subscribe to forums/topics and use pm? check her usergroup membership and make sure she is in a group with those permissions…

She is in the same User Group as everyone else.  

I found the http://codex.simple-press.com/codex/plugins/our-plugins/available-plugins/private-messaging/ page, and have been looking at the Permission Set Up.

After setting up the main configuration you must turn on the permission for which members you want to grant PM privileges. This is done in the Manage Permissions area of the Forum Administration settings.

But, how do I check to see if she or any specific user has “Standard Access” and not “Limited”? (if that’s the issue).

In looking at the Member PM Stats, I see 5 other members that it lists “No” under “Can PM”.  They all need to change. And I cannot find any logical connection between all 6 of them.

Well, one connection is that they are all newer members. But it’s not ALL the new members.

are you mapping new users based on wp role to a usergroup? forum – usergroups – map users to usergroups…

try going to forum – toolbox – housekeeping and resetting the auths cache and see if that helps…

are you using a membership plugin?

Ok, tried the auths cache reset and the 6 (well, now 5 as I realized one was supposed to have been removed from the forum anyway) still say “No” under “Can PM”

I do not believe this Forum was set up w/ any Membership plugins. I don’t see anything in the list of plugins that sounds like that.

I have not used the “map users to usergroups” page before. but most defaults are set to “Members” (except guests & admin/editor)

There really is very little for a new member.

• In WP everyone’s role is “Contributor” (except the admins, of course)
• In Simple-press, everyone is a member of the 2013 User Group

Yes, they are part of a usergroup and are active posting to the forum. It seems they just don’t have permission to view members, watch topics, subscribe to forums/topics and use pm.  Well, I know for certain 1 cannot. Those icons are simple not visible from her page.

I am sorry if this goes over old ground but have you actually checked in the permission set these users are matched up with to double check that those individual permission options are turned on?

I don’t see where I can assign a user to the permission set. When I click Manager Permission Sets, it only brings up general options, not the ability to assign users to each set name. And under “Users” I don’t see where I can assign a permission set to a specific user.

How do I check that a user is matched up to the right permission set?  

And I have verified that the user in question does NOT have “Opt out of Private Messaging” turned on.  So she should be able to send or receive private messages.

User Groups and permission Sets are applied to each other – matched up if you like – when you create (or edit) a forum.

Probably be a good idea to read through the short ‘Gettng Started’ section of our Codex for some help with access control…

Happy to, but the users were all set up the same. There’s just a couple that say “No” under “Can PM” in the Member PM Stats. So, if a user is in the the exact same usergroup as someone else, where would the issue be I should be looking for?

Is this a recent install or is it an older SP that has been upgraded?

Oh yes, I have read thru http://codex.simple-press.com/codex/getting-started/controlling-access/user-access-and-permissions/. 

and I guess I understand the theory. But what I don’t see in the codex is how to verify or even change a User groups Permission Set.  When I click “Manage User Group,” and click “Edit User Group” – there is no option to select the Permission set. Only User Group Name, Description, Badge and on/off toggle for “Allow Member to join usergoup” and “Is Moderator”.  When I go to Manage Permissions and Edit Permission Set, there is no place to assign a Usergoup to that Permission. So, where is it hidden to verify.

But, again, everyone is assigned to the same Usergroup.
