you have to enable email notification for pm’s…  forum – private messaging – options…  users can opt out of receiving them…

cool..problem is that all of them arew turned off for everyone already..how do u turn it all on for everyone?  It is enables but when I look at anyones profile..its set to off

Users always have the option to opt out of receiving emails… So now direct way of changing their options short of editing their profile…

guess the thing is no one is getting emails, including myself

we dont send the emails… wp does…  are new user emails going out?  emails from wp can be problematic – especially on shared hosting… this is because wp send emails as from wordpress@yourdomain.com… if that address does not exist, some hosts wont send it…

have you configured any email settings on forum – option – email settings?
