For the first, initial install you will need to use an ftp client and upload them to the server (default folder being /wp-content/sp-resources/forum-plugins/). After you unzip them of course! The WordPress installer does not support any other location than the WP plugins folder although we are hoping they may relent on that in the future.

After you have them in the right place then future updates will be delivered via the WordPress updater.

people do not have to register in order to post… well, at least you can set it up that way… or do you mean here?

sorry, what do you mean by ‘retrieve those emails to market to’?  are you talking about the emails sent our after a user registers?  generally, its set out by WordPress… however, simple press does offer you a way to customize it… see forum – options – email settings if you have that enabled… if I missed your question, please restate with a bit more details…

basically, you assign a series of usergroups (collection of usergroups) and a permission sets to each forum…  the user in that usergroup get those permissions on that forum…  so for your example, you would say that guests cannot post…
