Support Forum
I am trying to move from phpBB to SimplePress.
Both forums are now on my site
http://www.mantouf.com/forum is the simplepress
http://www.mantouf.com/forums is the phpBB
I installed everything and when I am importing, all forums came in except 1. It is the first one. PSoC1 forum.
When I imported, all forums came in under a single group which is PSoC 1, I went ahead and sorted them again as you se on the site now. But if you look at the PsoC 1 forum, it shows 0 topics which is not right.
I have uninstalled Simple Press 3 times to try the import again given that it does not let me retry the import without deleting all the data.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

is the data really there? perhaps after the import, go to forum - toolbox - houskeeping and rebuild the forum indexes... if the data is there, should reset the stats...
otherwise, will let Andy jump in in the morning...

That's the issue. I don't think the data was imported. But it was not imported only for that particular forum. It is ok for all of the other ones.
And the only way I know how to do it is to uninstall and start over. Which I prefer not to do if there is a better answer. I will wait for Andy's response.
thanks for getting back to me quickly.

The bad news, sadly, is that if it reports a failure to import a forum, or posts within a forum, then it basically does mean that there was something odd about the source data. It means that the standard queries - the same ones that were used on the forum that DID import - are not working. This suggests maybe a data corruption but more likely something odd that we have not encountered before. Maybe a custom setup. But the one I have seen most often would be missing internal links that make it impossible to select the correct records. Although to be fair - I don't believe I have seen that on a phpBB sourced database.
I am not familiar with using phpBB but if it has any sort of optimisation tools, indexing rebuild tools rep;air tools or anything like that then it might be worth running those prior to trying for the import just in case.

Some more info, maybe to help narrow it down.
I redid a fresh install:
On top of the import window, I get the following warning. this is before anything starts:
Warning: Creating default object from empty value in
.../wp-content/plugins/sp-import/admin/spimport-setup.php on line 32
It stays there the whole time while the import is happening.
then the import happens, and it imports the users...then at the last user, it hangs a little, and then displays this:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator and inform them of the time the error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Apache Server at http://www.psocdeveloper.com Port 80 then is keeps going creating the forums I am not sure where to find the log for this error. Is it the SP log specific? Is there a limitation on how big the forum can be for an import? The one hanging up is the largest by far, and the first one. It fails, then the rest of them go on fine. Not sure if this helps you in any way to be able to direct me to the right path. Thanks, H-
that is just a warning and of no issue... php wants you to create an object before assigning it... but it works...
the issue is certainly going to be the 500 server error... limit on forum size? well, not fundamentally... but the bigger the forum, the more memory and cpu time going to be required to process it... likely you are running out of one of those... you should be able to increase them in your php.ini file on your server and see if you can get it done... should be able to memory 256M or 512M... and increase cpu to like 600... I wouldnt leave it that large, but just to get the import done...
we do have a ticket open on the importer to try to do batch processing on forums to not require memory and cpu proportional to the size, but its a big change and no ETA...
