we can also only go on what messages and codes are returned from the server and the php processor. These do sometimes leave a lot to be desired but if we get an error code back all we can really do is reflect that.

Mystery solved.

While trying to find the cause of the linking problem the other day my webhost klindly reset my php.ini without telling me. They have now set it back to where it was so it’s off to do some more testing.
