Nit picking. Nothing but nit picking.

Wouldn’t it save a cpu cycle and make sense to have the permalink button on each post simply be an anchor?

Instead of opening a modal window with a rather clunky copy and paste (you can’t click and ctrl-a, and it’s not too difficult to over highlight), power users could easily right click and “Copy URL” (wording varies per browser), and everybody else can simply follow the link and pull it from their address bar?

I know it’s a ridiculously small thing, but with a name like Simple:Press any opportunity to simplify seems like a good thing to me.

I have often wondered myself why there is even a popup for it…

I just right click and copy the link when I want the url…  Andy use to do something with it… I will ask him if he still has a reason for keeping it in popup…

I wasn’t sure if that was too nit picky, but sometimes small things make a difference so I figured why not.

we take any and all suggestions seriously… being just two of us, some may get a lower priority before getting worked…

others, its just a matter of timing… now would be a good time to update this if we decide to…

Yes I just right click as well, very observant that Mark.

A bit of nit picking at this stage is a good thing surely?

From what I can see on our V4.4.5 forum which is pretty well used (7000+ posts since November) there are only 3 or 4 of us ever use permalinks and those that do will be right clicking and copying the link. Mind you it is a forum full of luddites!

Yep – nit pick away. If it’s constructive nit picking then we listen.
Steve already asked me about this and I have no issue with changing it. The reason it is as it is is largely historic.
I would really like to invoke a mechanism to just copy the permalink to the clipboard but with the current state of both browser and javascript incompatibilities you need to write code almost as long as the M25 to be able to do something that simple. You would think that with the clipboard having been a feature since about 1984 there would be common ground and a good javascript object but that seems to much to expect…
