a lot of hosts put in the root directory as Andy said… but other hosts move it to different locations… some you can access it via the control panel (ie cpanel)… for others you may want to contact your host…
I was advised by my hosting provider that I would need to create a new directory called logs and to add the following text to the .htaccess file:
php_flag log_errors on
php_value error_log /path/to/error_log
I have done that, but the fact that this is a new directory suggests to me that there is NO existing error.log
it well could be error logging was completely turned off in your php set up… normally, error logging to file is enabled, but displaying of the errors would be turned off… but that doesnt mean it was wrong – just different…
ok, so what do I do now?? Going back to earlier threads, my problem is still not resolved
Well first step is to let the error log sit there for a couple of days and then look to see if there are any of the repeating patterns I asked about before. If not then we move on to the next notion – although I am not sure what that is yet…
I have just sent you the contents of the error_log by PM. I’m not sure that these throw any light on the situation, but please advise.
No it doesn’t. Shame as that can sometimes point you in the right direction but there is nothing there of any consequence.

Hey – there is no need to get so defensive. I am trying to help. But let’s be honest here – $1 a month hosting means huge resource sharing – you will be sharing a server with a very large number of other sites so it explains why the host is making noises. But judging by your reaction to the question I guess you already know that.
I asked because I wanted to see what resources they were giving you. That is NOT a slanging match but an obvious question to ask.

No – I can see no obvious reason for the high query count. Subscriptions can add quite a few queries – probably the membership subs as well but nothing extraordinary. Watches do too but that should be reduced in the next update due any day now.
Can you tell me what the settings are on forum admin > Integration > Page and Permalink > Theme Dislay Options section?
Question for Mr Papa: Do you think it is at all possible that SP might be loading twice on the page and we just don’t see it? We know some WP themes can do this but usually it is visually evident.
I see no evidence of multiple loading… also, maybe check forum – options – global settings and try turning off error logging…
