Permissions for private (secret) forum — inheriting from parent forum?

I’m setting up a new “secret” forum with a number of sub forums and it’s critical that only the intended audience has access.

So I created a new user group and permissions, no access for guests, regular members and mods.   Is there some box to check so the sub forums inherit the permissions?

There might be as many as a hundred members for the secret forum and they are NOT members.  What’s the most efficient way to invite / add new members?

Thanks much!

If you create a new forum group and set the permissions in the new group form, then these will be inherited by any forum that is defined for that group as the base permission profile. Does that help?

I wrote that wrong, sorry!   I have a group and ONE of the forums in the group is secret.   I wanted the subforums to be the same permissions as the parent forum, not the group.

Does that make sense?

It’s not that it’s a lot of work setting the permissions for each sub forum, am just worried about missing one.

Then I believe at the moment it is manual. And this is actually something I would very much like to get changed so that permissions can automatically filter down from a parent forum. But not there yet I am sorry to say.

Thanks, it would make sense.

Now I still had this question:
There might be as many as a hundred members for the secret forum and they are NOT members.  What’s the most efficient way to invite / add new members?

I just found out that they’re mostly Facebook people, is there something like an invite I could send them or should I just have them go through regular registration and have them email me their user name for access to the private forum?

wp users and registrations are the purview of WP…  I believe there are plugins for WP that allow you to do invites…  there are also WP plugins that allow you to use third party logins, such as their facebook account (or twitter or more)..

Thanks, I’ll have a look around.  Didn’t even think of the Facebook login, they would like that.

feel free to ask more questions on what you find.. we may have direct or heard of experiences using some of them…

Quite a few sites these days are using third party login/registration these days… makes it easy for them…
