When I try to create a PM, I must fill in first the “Select from members” field which apparently should auto-complete.
In my case nothing happens at all. I tried typing a few usernames and the name of the receipient does not show and i cannot send the PM.
I have tried to disable a plugins but it is to no avail. Can you help please?

When this has happened in the past it has always come down to a JavaScript conflict of some kind although – normally – I would expect other things to not quite work as expected either.
If you know how to use the browser console then it will show up any script errors that may be happening which should point to the main problem.
While it may not be the case here – this codex artcle does describe the most cpommon conflict that we see – most often with WordPress themes:
