Problems with backslashes

Hey,

I have a huge problem with my Simple:Press forum. I am running a software-related forum where users post a lot of file paths using backslashes, but the forum software and/or TinyMCE editor doesn’t seem to like backslashes at all.

When creating a new post all backslashes show up correctly. However, when you edit a post oder preview a post, all backslashes are erased from the post, which is very annoying for me and my users.

Is there a fix for this?

Best Regards,

Finn

There is no known problem of this kind and this is quite a unique report. Try it here perhaps so we can be sure we are talking about the same thing.

So – some questions…

Is this a recent SP installation and if not is it a recent problem? If the latter then we really need to ask what has changed that might be causing this – and by changed I mean WordPress theme or other WP plugins updated or new WP plugins activated. In particular – do you have any WP plugins active that might be running textual filters against the post content that might be the cause of the issue?

Hey,

I just tried it here in this forum and the backslashes are stripped whenever I edit a post. See:

I just noticed that when I preview a post in this forum (and in mine), the backslashes are gone in the preview. However, in the original post they still show up.

I am running the latest WordPress version (3.9.2) with the latest Simple:Press version (5.5). The problem has been there ever since I installed the forum. I just tried deactivating all other active plugins, but the problem still persists.

My apologies. I missed the fact that you were referring to editing an existing post – not the original creation of the post.

Let me investigate. Probably a simple escaping issue… I will open a ticket to get a fix in place

Hey,

I just installed the new Simple Press 5.5.1 and the backslash bug when editing a post is fixed. Thanks a lot!wink

However, when a post is previewed the backslashes are still missing in the preview shown at the bottom of the post (fortunately they do show up in the published post). Could you open another ticket for this so this can get fixed as well?

To show you what I mean, just add a new reply containing the following path and preview it:

C:userdocssomefile.ext

How curious… the preview uses exactly the same set of filtering as the main content. Theory says it should be the same but yes – I can see it isn’t.

So yes – sadly – I will open a ticket for it to be looked at.
