Removing Current Plugin Folder and Files from 4.4.5 Install

Thanks everyone in advance for your patience as I’m new to WordPress and Simple:Press!  I’m really excited to get 5.0 Beta up and running.

I’m trying to upgrade my current install from version 4.4.5 to 5.0 Beta.  According to the 5.0 Beta Download page, I should “…completely remove the current plugin folder and files.”  This process also seems consistent with the upgrade path from 4.4.5 to 4.5.1 according to the 4.5.1 Read Me doc.

I, for the life of me, cannot figure out the process of how to delete the “simple-forum” folder and files within the wp-content/plugins directory.  Is that something I can do through WordPress admin or do I go through the file manager in cPanel?  I’m sorry for the basic question (as it appears from a search of this forum that I’m the only one with this issue), but I don’t want to make a bad situation worse.

If anyone could walk me through the specifics of how (and where) to delete the appropriate folder and files, I would truly appreciate it!

you need to do it from the file manager in cpanel (or other panel) or via ftp or via ssh…

do not uninstall from the sp admin menu…

just delete the simple-forum directory and all its subdirectories and files… then upload via similar method, the new 5.0 version simple-press directory and all its subdirectories and files… you can use the wp plugin installer if you like…

you will then need to activate the simple press plugin (wp will deactivate it since the directory name changed)… then you will be able to upgrade it…

as always, make a db backup before you begin…
