Something’s funky with my installation. For some reason when a user signs up, their registration email gives them the password “both” which, obviously, is incorrect. I double checked another registration plugin I have was disabled and that wasn’t causing the problem, I disabled SP and tried again and the email put the password in the email correctly.
Any ideas what would cause this and how to fix it? Everything is running the most up to date versions
Small world, had a buddy register yesterday that said the same thing.
“it’s not letting me login the wp screen shakes when I enter the pw of “both” which is what your system gave me.”
And to think i told him he was an idiot, and WordPress does not generate passwords like that. 
Yikes.. I just checked on another one of my sites and the same thing is happening!
I think this is a WordPress glitch.
Registered as a new user from the wp-login.php prompt and got the same thing.

I did that too but as soon as I disabled simple press it worked as normal again which is what brings me back to SP
are you sure you guys are not using a plugin called Spam Shield? perhaps check out this item: https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/33443
of course, we will have to check as well and make sure we dont have a similar problem…

Never heard of that plugin so nope, not using that.
I just disabled all plugins except SP and it’s still happening.

its not a general issue with simple press – those emails are going out, but perhaps some combination of settings can impact…
based on the number of core tickets on stuff, its appearing the wp devs have changed a whole lot more that impacts plugins than they advertised or even knew about…
ah, looks like wp complete changed the new user notification routine… so any plugin that touches that is likely to fail…
and of course, there was no notice from them of this change… given their screwup in the 4.2.3 (I think) release, their recent track record of not breaking things has gone to hell… they usually do notification of potentially breaking changes but failed here I guess…
have to add our name to the list of dozens this change broke… we will work on a fix…

Thanks.. hope it’s on too hard to fix.. bad timing for me trying to get a new community up and running on this site 🙁
until that release, you can just disable the simple press new user email option… sigh….
guess we have to join the ranks of plugins and themes whining about the recent lack of insight into changes from the wp devs… 🙁
