When I make a private forum that only certain groups have access to, does that automatically create noindex/nofollow in the sitemap for all posts in those forums? If not, how do I get those to not index?

sorry, not sure I understand the quesiton...  marking a group, forum or topic as index/noindex is not user specific...  either all or none...  but no, we dont do that...

since google (or other crawlers) wont be able to access the forum or topics (wont have permission), they wont index them anyways...

oh... and if you have the google xml sitemap plugin for WordPress, and then the xml sitemap plugin for sp, you can choose to not include individual forums in the sitemap...  so again, crawlers wont know to index...

I do have google xml sitemaps, how would I get it to exclude entire forums (meaning all posts ever made in those forums)? I understand google won't be able to access it when it crawls but I don't want to have a ton of 404s in my webmaster tools. Make sense?

google wont index 404 because it wont even find them...

and as I said, grab the sp google xml sitemaps (you said you have the wp plugin) and then edit the forums you dont want included and choose that option...

At risk of sounding stupid, I've looked for over an hour where I could "edit the forums I don't want included", but cannot seem to find where that is. Where did I miss this?

In the WP plugin, I see where to exclude blog categories and specific posts, but not where to exclude forum groups. Also, I don't see anything about excluding forums or forum groups in the SP plugin.

in the admin, go to the simple press admin area... forum - forums - manage groups and forums...  edit a forum where you want to turn off adding to the sitemap, and you will find the option to disable putting it into the google xml sitemap...

and as mentioned, you need both the wp google xml sitemap plugin and the sp google xml siteamp plugin...
