Standard Access cannot post new topic or reply

Ordinary users of the forum (members) have standard access and I have ‘Can start new topics in a forum’ with a nice green light at the side of it and yet when any ordinary member tries to post a new topic the green saving post box pops up followed by a red box with the warning ‘You are not allowed put links in post content’.

The same happens when trying to reply.

I’ll try it for mods and try creating a new permission set.

Only admins can post or create new topics this has changed as it was not the case a day or two ago. I have the forum permissions set correctly

I cannot duplicate this…

so need more info on your setup…  default theme?  or your own?

what about the permission ‘Can reply to existing topics in a forum’?

Is the forum locked?

Steve this is a brand new install of WP 3.2.1 installed solely for testing V5 which was installed from scratch. I have the following plugins installed:

  • Akismet
  • Comment Image Embedder
  • Health Check
  • Really Simple CAPTCHA
  • Simple:Press
  • Tango Smileys Extended
  •  User Avatar
  •  User Role Editor
  • WP-Members
  • WP-Table Reloaded
  • WP Security Scan

Forum is not locked and as I said above the permissions are correct for the forum. This has changed in the last 2 days as I definitely did not have this problem previously.

I always go to the default theme before reporting problems.

By the way this one is pretty important! Can’t have a forum full of admins!

Let’s start with the obvious…

Forum admin > options > content settings : ‘Allow links in posts’. Is that definitely turned on?

You mean in spam posts? Well I have never been near that since a fresh install and remember this WAS working fine.

I have changed the status and it makes no difference, besides there are no links it is a simple text post. Can you register as a test user on my site and see for your self.

You have admin access.

This needs to be sorted out this one. It happened after the svn up Wednesday morning. I don’t have any way of checking the svn version from this pc sorry.

Did you update anything else on the site around that time? Other WP plugins? Activate any other SP plugins?

Er maybe…..

I seem to recall there might have been an upgrade to User Role Editor.

I’ll check.

Rolled back and still no difference. Happened at 6829, worked before that. Please fix this, it’s really important to me, if it’s not your fault then help me find out what’s going on.

Conrad, its hard to fix if its unknown what your issue is…  No one else seems to be having this issue – certainly Andy and I are not…

we are not ignoring it, but have to explore what could be unique in your set up and try to ascertain what might be going on…

patience please…  after all, you just have it running on a test site for now, right? Wink

I guess I should pipe in here and say that I have no problems posting or replying as a regular member on my setup. Sorry, but I’ve tried several times with all kinds of users.

Lee, same for Andy and I…

Conrad, can Andy and I still access your server?  I dont seem to have a PM with credentials… can you resend them to us so we can take a closer look?

Steve PM sent.

My best guess (and it’s only a guess) is that the plug in ‘user role editor’ has screwed with the DB.

I have tried un installing it but I suspect the damage is done.
