When you try and upload a file, are you getting any errors in your PHP error log? Also worth checking SP error log – sounds like it might be a folder permissions issue..

Tried uploading a 50 px avatar message – C:fakepathavatar_9003.png

to be honest I wouldnt even know whare to look for PHB/ SP error logs

I read the little help box in the storage location, but  i have no idea how to do what it says or what 775 is I’m no PHB coder.

Well the SP error log can be found in the admin panel (dashboard) – see Forum > Toolbox > Error Log, although it might not turn out anything useful if it is a folder permission problem.

The folder permissions are really more WP territory than SP, so take a look at this page from the WordPress Codex just for reference more than anything. It might be worth checking to make sure the folder permissions are correct.

When you tried uploading your avatar, did you get any error messages on the screen? if so please paste it in here..

Take a look at the ‘this page’ link I posted previously. If you are using FTP, it has a specific section on how you can change permissions for directories on your remote host.

Heres an odd thing, maybe related, but when I try to upload a avatar to my profile here I get the same thing c:fakepath

Sorry, I’m really not sure what c:fakepath is a reference to. Can you take a screenshot? both here and your forum?

Ah, OK.. Sorry it just dawned on me as I remember seeing this before. This is a security feature of some browsers – they hide the real file path. However, the upload should still work as normal, have you tried uploading after selecting your image? (ignoring the ‘fakepath’ text)
