Hi everyone and just to add a bit more of information and I guess that’s mainly for the SIMPLE-PRESS team (since they may not be too familiar with DAP) hopping to provide useful info to better help our community so let me say that…
DAP is not what I call a ‘natively WordPress’ membership solution. I mean, DAP exist as a membership solution independent to WP and works for a lot more other things than WP sites probably similarly to how vBulletin (non natively WP) compares to Simple-Press (a plugin developed FOR WP exclusively, conceived out of WP genetic).
Having said that DAP has its own database and user/membership access is controlled by DAP database, not WordPress database.
The integration within DAP and WP depends on the ‘single sign-on’ principle that basically happens by having the user to login into DAP database that then synchronize with WP database so all membership and credential validation takes place under DAP umbrella and not WP.
Makes sense? The point is that you (your members) has to login to DAP (not WP) who is also responsible for protecting your content and who would then sync with WP login procedure and not the other way around.

BTW if you read 2nd link you’ll notice they favor non-natively WP tools just like they are :p
and if you read 3rd link you’ll notice what you have to go through when using ‘non-native WP’ tools (‘creating-a-login-page-within-wordpress’ come on! WP has its login page as a main part of its component, any native-WP tools will use that you don’t have to ‘create’ anything) .
Finally my recommendation is that if you are using a WP based site is always advisable to use native WP tools to take advantage of WP core (roles, permissions, taxonomies, categorization, etc) this will make things to work out of the box instead of having to actually ‘integrate’ with third parties.
Just to mentioned few samples: s2members, magic members, wishlist, are natively WP membership plugins. DAP, amember, etc are not.
