Unable to post or edit

I’m not sure when it happened, but it must have been fairly recently. I was able to post and edit a month ago. Now the field appears to be there, but I can’t post or see anything in it. The original post shows above, but nothing in the edit field.

The forum isn’t super active right now, so it’s not been on our front burner. However, we’re about to launch a campaign to promote it and do have a few paying customers, so we’d like to get this going asap.

I checked error log tonight having tried a few things (including checking to see if a particular thread was locked) and found this

file: /simple-press/forum/database/sp-db-management.php
line: 691
function: sp_lock_topic_toggle
Notice | Undefined index: forumid

Could it be related?

http://escapeamericanow.info/forum/ is the forum. You (Swordfish & Mr Papa) have the same credentials I gave you before, if it’s any help.

Thanks!

Sounds like the old wp 3.9 version that broke many themes and plugins…

Can you try it with default WP theme and other plugins disabled? And see if still an issue…

Please come back with those results….

No, that harmless notice wont have any impact…  this is wp 3.9.1 and sp 5.4.2?

afraid we dont have the credentials…  being the kind of info that they are, we delete them as soon as we are done with them…  dont like them just lying around…

first, you didnt give this user all the needed admin capabilities – namely manage components…  I need that to be able to see the tinymce options…

I am also seeing numerous js errors (from facebook and theme) – dont know if an issue or not…

but more importantly perhaps, I am also seeing a syntax highlighting plugin (ours) js error…  perhaps you have it enabled but didnt define any languages to use???  again, cannot tell since its in the components menu for sp…

please add the capability and can research more…

Oops, sorry about that. The permissions are fixed.

We haven’t changed anything on the site in months, so perhaps one of the recent updates caused an issue. I have another plugin acting up as well.

I do recall that we had errors with this particular theme before, but either it didn’t affect the forums or we changed something so that it wouldn’t. It’s been awhile.

For languages? I haven’t touched any language functions in months. It was set for English and Spanish, and that’s it. Seemed to work fine last time I checked. But if it’s an issue, we can get rid of it and I can worry about it later. For now, I just need to get it working again.

Thanks for any help

Joe

languages = brushes…

and its working now…  the problem was you had an invalid configuration for the syntax highlighting plugin…  you have it active, but turned it off everywhere and then cleared out all the languages (brushes)…

obviously, even though an error configuration, we need to handle the situation better and will get a ticket open for it…  but at this point, why do you even have that plugin active?  its just wasting resources and slow down page loading even though you have disabled all the locations…

Ummmm

I plead ignorance. Like I said, I haven’t touched this thing in a long time. I set it up and it was working great, so I left it alone.

I was just working on the site too, and trying to get the plugin organizer working. Awhile back you had advised me to get it because of some plugin conflict we were having. But  now it’s asking me to move a file. When doing so, the site disappeared. I ended up having to change the name of the plugin to get it back. When I came back, the forums worked. So I wasn’t sure if it was you or me. Just tried it again and it killed the site again. Odd… Now the site’s slower without it working.

Anyway, tell me what I need to do and I’ll gladly do it.

Thanks!

you did touch the site – you updated to wp 3.9….  In there, they completely replace the tinymce wp editor…  every plugin written for tinymce had to be rewritten by plugin authors…  syntax highlighting is one such…  turns out there was an off nominal condition that could cause the crash you were seeing…

you are adding the plugin organizer??? if its been working, why?

working for me now…  so what is you want to do?

Right, I do keep up with updates. I meant that I haven’t changed settings – specifically in the forums.

You guys had me use the plugin organizer before. I set it up and it worked like a charm, fixing some issues I was having with the forums. That was months ago.

Today I was looking at a page and it said I had to move a file for plugin organizer to work. When I did so, the site vanished. Poof! It was gone. No site. No admin. Nuthin’!

So, I put the file back, but the site was still gone. So I renamed the plugin. It’s showing still, but can’t be activated. And now I see that the site is slower again… something the plugin organizer had helped.

I have no idea if any of this is related – just passing on information in case it’s helpful. I don’t pretend to understand how these things affect each other.

Thanks for getting the forums working again. If you have further insight from here, anything is appreciated.

Kind regards,

Joe

One of the issues that the plugin organizer fixed is now an issue again. Notice that the “Go to Bottom” button won’t show an image. We were having similar issues before. I think there was a plugin conflict, which was why the organizer helped.

Any ideas?

well, your site has a bunch of js errors and network issues (file found)…  pay per view is throwing errors as well as some facebook plugin (or theme feature)…

here is your old topic:  https://simple-press.com/support-forum/sp5-general-topics/404-error-started-recently/page-5/

but doesnt really address what was done in plugin organizer… when did it stop working???  and what file did it want moved?

I’m not sure when it stopped. Today was the first time I noticed it. If I recall correctly, it was a file that it required me to move when I first set it up. It’s “PluginOrganizerMU.class.php” Supposed to be moved to mu-plugins. When I moved it, the site crashed. Moving back didn’t help.

Both of those plugins are from WPMUDev. I’ll see if they can take a look at it. The theme is their’s too.
