I am using 5.0 non beta and I see a new round of updates are available, is it okay to update sp without updating the sp theme? I made a few minor changes to the theme and don’t wanna go back to remake the changes right now.

you might run into an issue…

we have been strongly recommending to users NOT to make any changes to our supplied themes and to edit your own sp theme so you dont have issue upgrading…

I would suggest copying your modified sp theme over to your own theme before doing anything… http://codex.simple-press.com/codex/themes/theme-basics/creating-a-theme/

and set up your forum to use your theme before doing anything… then upgrade the sp plugin and see how it works… you can also update the supplied sp themes as it will no loner affect yours…

and see how it looks… we try not to break existing themes….
