Support Forum
Hi, I'm on Wordpress 3.3.1 and was running 4.4.5.
I followed the upgrade steps to move to 5, making sure to deactivate and then delete the old plug in and when I clicked to upgrade, I was shown these results:
Upgrade Aborted
6398
6624
success
I'd spotted that another user gained success on your recommendation of going from 4.4.5 to 4.5.1 first and deleted 5 before putting 4.4.5 into the plug-ins folder via ftp.
In my wordpress dashboard, it appears that this was successful as I can see the forum plug in and navigate around the options, but when I view the forum from the front end I get error messages shown above the header. You can see these if you visit the website fingerpickingguitar.org but I've uploaded an attachment screenshot for ease.
I've checked with the hosting company and I do have the drop/create privilege that you've flagged is sometimes an issue.
I'd just like to check, should I be focusing on getting 4.5.1 sorted before I upgrade onto 5, or can I ignore these errors shown in the front end and push on with the upgrade? Thanks in advance!
I deactivated, then deleted 4.5.1 then uploaded the 5 zip file through the WP uploader and can activate the new version, but at the upgrade I've a new message
Upgrade Aborted
6401
6624
success
I then tried deleting the simple-press files and checking via ftp they were gone from the plug-ins folder before manually uploading the simple-press folder. When I go to upgrade I get the same message. The front end of the forum is now showing the "it's being upgraded" message.
Please can you point me in the right direction for what to try to get this completed?
Thank you so much, we went for the default theme and this time when I click on upgrade I got the progress bar and the upgrade completed in a few seconds.
We're now going to be able to get into using the new upgrade, and enjoying all the new features and improvements. Thank you so much for coming back and guiding me through this!
You will need to check your forum permissions as I am betting they have been lost.
I can offer you a db script to at least put them back to their default values.
The worry here is that your theme may have a script problem that will also impact the use of SP as it has impacted the upgrade process. try a few things out before celebrating!
