Working on integrating MailChimp into the WordPress/Simple:Press registration flow. Is it possible to have the user:

Signup on mailchimp, which then adds them to wordpress as a particular user (basic user level) which then also allows them access to two forums?

is that the way all users are added?  you can simply set all new users to get access to the forums… just map the wp user role the user gets to a simple press usergroup and they will gain access to the forums…

see:  https://simple-press.com/documentation/codex/faq/how-to/how-to-configure-simple-press-with-membership-plugin/

in this case, mailchip is the membership plugin..

I am looking to integrate Mailchimp as well, since I am using it for all other member features on my site.

My problem is that SimplePress obviously requires the user to enter a Forum user name, whereas the default Mailchimp registration doesn’t. When signing up for the site features using Mailchip, the user only enters a full name and email address. I might be able to add a custom field for “Forum user name” to Mailchimp (I think it requires Mailchimp Pro) but if so, how do I map that to the Simple Press forum user name?

There is no such thing as a ‘forum user name’. There is just a user – registered and controlled by WordPress and granted access to your website or parts of your website. Simple:Press does not control users.
