Anyone got any suggestions on how to simplify the process other than hacking the SQL data tables with a blunt axe and a roll of sellotape?

vbulletin is not free software so we have no way to get version for importer…
but we can import from phpbb, smf, bbpress, mingle and couple others… so if you can find a vbulletin converter to one of those, can do a conversion to it and then convert to simple press.
Installed SMF and converted vBulletin 4 to that. Worked like a charm.
Downloaded the “convertor” found on another thread here, uploaded to wp-plugins, activated and…
Now what? I can’t seem to find any options to import.
Well – how far have you got? Have you loaded the importer to see the form and the help panel?

I’ve downloaded the importer, but have no idea what to do with it.
I uploaded as a worpdress plugin and activated it, but no options are showing anywhere to import.
Nothing!
Am I correct in assuming that this importer should be uploaded to wp-content/plugins/ ?
There is no documentation or instructions I can find anywhere. I’m using WP3.3,The latest BP version and SPv5.

Oh sorry – the importer is not geared up for V5 yet. It has only been made public for V4 forums. Our mistake – I missed the forum you were posting in. Apologies.
It works, but I think my forum is too big for the importer. It keeps failing to import large chunks.

do you mean it stops? or intermittently misses stuff? if later, what is the collation or charset on the data?

Sent you a PM with the detail.
Basically, the import from Vbulletin to SMF works 100%.
The import from SMF to SPv4 is a nightmare. It only imports the bits it feels like, leaving chunks behind at random, skipping threads, ignoring others, part importing some inbetween losing access to the page!
Eventually the importer says it’s finished, but the new SPv4 forum ends up about 40% down on the data the SMF forum holds.
This is my 3rd night and 22nd attempt of trying after wiping all databases and trying over and over.
I can only assume my forum is too big.
Shame, I’m gutted. I so wanted to use SP as opposed to VB. Looks like I’m stuck with VB for all eternity. May God have mercy on my soul!
based on your size data above, we have imported larger databases, so its not specifically size issue… havent seen you pm yet, but we have some issues (works 95-98% of the time) with diff collations and non utf characters…
We do plan on some work on the importer real soon including 5.0 support…
If you were willing to share your SMF database with us, we could try to see what the issue is… if thats okay, email it to support at simple-press dot com…
