Birth date format

I have been trying to add a birthday to my profile and no matter what format I use it says it is invalid. What format do I use?

The format is YYYY-MM-DD but the datapicker cntrol will set it correctly.
There are reasons for this format. In the next update a placeholder attribute has been added to help users with this.
