Blog post linking does not show images

The plugin works fine in making the post to a topic. But when there is a picture in there it doesn’t show up. It only gives a message “Image cannot be found”.
I’ve figured out that it has something to do with the Permalink structure of WP, but don’t have a clue how to solve this problem. Tried finding a solution in the help here but cannot find how to solve this.

Example: http://www.capelle-fotografeert.nl/forum-4/november/test#p17

I also use Nextgen and would like the uploads from there and the media library WP to be used. Is this possible at all?

can you please explain what you did?  images in posts should come across just fine…  however, though you said images in post, if you meant a feature image, that one currently does not come across…  but we do have a ticket for that enhancement in a future release…

why do you think its a permalink issue with wp?   in your case, it looks like the url of the uploaded image does not match the url of the actual uploaded image…  when you insert into a post using the wp media uploader, it does get the right image url…  not sure if nextgen is dorking up that url, but we grab the actual url from the attachment…

Thank you for your quick response!

On the WP side I made a post and used the extra ‘button’ (text underneath with possibility to set the forum you would like to link to) and published the post in WP. On that side it appears with photo. On the forum a new item appears, with the mentioned “Image cannot be found”. If I look for the link it refers to a folder called archives. This is not an actual folder I can find on the system. There is only a reference to that folder in the Permalinks part of WP.

If you click on the link with text “Image can not be found” you get the picture.

At first I thought the problem was with Nextgen, so I tried the same from loading an image from the WP Media button. With the same result :( .

So when you hit the insert into post button in the wp media uploader, look at the post editor and see what url is entered for the image. Keep in mind, that SP has zero interaction in this media uploading. If it’s correct at this point, then something else is affecting the URL at wp post saving. Might be worth looking at the URL stored in the wp post content column in the db too.

At this point it is not possible to look in to the db content. But when I follow the links for the image I get two different things. From the post in WP I go to the image that is uploaded. When I follow the link from post in forum I get ?

I don’t know how to explain what I get. The image is shown in something that looks like a post in WP, but isn’t to be found as a post. That is how I got to the Permalinks. WP is set to show links in a Permalink form like this: domain.nl/archives/xx/img.jpg

Where archives is not a physical directory but a reference from WP in a neat jacket. I thought this might confuse SP when looking for the image. Because Nextgen is also in a not standard directory (made by NG), I figured that would be the problem?

cant look at db??? odd, time for new host? ;)

well, the url we look for the image at is the url that is inserted into the wp post by the wp media library or other plugin…

sounds like a plugin or theme is overriding the standard url… if we cant find the image at the specified url in the post, not sure what we can do…

at this point, I would try disabling all other plugins and doing another blog post linked to forum topic with image and see if it corrects…

Not a new host, just not able to look due to other work elsewhere :) .

I’ve tried to put an image with just the url. That worked for the post, but not for the new made post in the forum. I was wondering what the info in that post said. It was exactly what it should be, so I saved and closed the file and after that action it showed the photo.

Got back to the earlier post and did the same, with the same result.

Lost again on how to go on with this, so help/suggestions will be highly appreciated.

It looks like the info is correct and is transported correct to the new post, only the output is not “updated” correctly in the forum post?

If neccessary it is possible to look at the db, if you can tell what to look for (mysql is not my daily work :) ).

It sounds like you will need to look at the html of the forum post when the image is not showing and before you edit and resave.

Like Mr. Papa said above there may be another WP plugin that is overriding something and when you edit and resave the html is fixed.

You should be able to view the html without needing to go into the database by using you browser view source or Firefoxes Firebug or other browsers inspection tool.

I would start there. Maybe even compare the html before and after you edit/save the Simple:Press post.

Thank you for your response. I’ll try these suggestions and let you know the outcome :)

Not closer to a solution. Tried following:

1. Deactivate plugins 1 by 1 and after deactivating make a blog post and let it make a forum post. Text visible, image is message (Image not found) with correct reference to image

2. Tried several ways of putting image in post by direct html, insert with Media of WP and insert with Nextgen. Same out come as with option 1

3. Looked at the db before and after edit update (which still works – no show, edit, do show). I don’t see a difference, only thing that changes is the edit column, which only seems logical

I did save a before and after version of the source code of the page, but didn’t have the courage to start comparing, due to the large amount of info in both pages. Working up courage to start comparing :( .

Let you know if I find something there, but honestly I doubt that it will bring the problem solver

Any other suggestions more then welcome!

sorry, have lost the bubble here while gone…  so let me understand one thing…

first, talking about inserting posts into image and NOT the featured image, right?

second, what is the img source url in the wp post after inserting the image into the post using the wp media loader?  and what is the image its trying to load after the wp post is saved?  they should be identical or something is changing it…

can you take the image url when you edit the post and paste it into the url of your browser and load it?  asking if the direct url to image will load… might not be web accessible…

No problem :)

There is nothing wrong with the URL. When I post in WP it shows the picture. Then in the post I set the option to put the post in the forum. When looking at the post in the forum it doesn’t show the image, but a message “Image can not be found” In Chrome it shows the URL that it’s reffering to (not to be found). If you follow the link (message) you get the image. If the post is edited and saved, without any changes made, the image shows up.

As said I tried turning off all the plugins (WP and SP) without any change. There is also an other problem at this moment. Maybe it’s confusing to this disscussion maybe it’s related so….
In the page of the forum at the bottom it should show the number of groups, members etc. The text is there but it doesn’t show the info. I thought I maybe forgot to turn something on, but when I was browsing through the error log in the toolbox it’s shows a whole bunch of error messages.

One of the errors: f
ile: /simple-press/forum/content/sp-common-view-functions.php
line: 2090
function: sp_ForumStats
Notice | Trying to get property of non-object

If there is no relation, then it’s something for another time. One problem at a time :) .

Had 2 different people with similar problems. I split out the topic so easier to understand.

@Petra use this topic.

@Massimo  Please use this for your issue.

We need to see these. Can you please make a linked blog post as you usually do – with an image. Then let me have the url to the unedited blog post and the url to the unedited forum post it created. It is the only way I can start to make any sense of this thread…

When you look at the link it shows the exact URL where the image is. So when you click on the message the systems goes to the correct image.

If you need anything else it might take a little while before you hear from me. I’m from the Netherlands and it’s already late in the evening here :)
