On my site the BuddyPress integration plugin will show a number in the balloon in the taskbar that there are new posts, and it will also show that there are notifications in the dropdown from the taskbar (under your username), but if you click on any but one of the links it takes you to your BuddyPress notifications page where it says there are no unread notifications. Only if you click on the dropdown that says the actual forum posts are you taken to the page with the new forum posts. The other links are basically broken links.
Is this the way it functions, or is there something not set up right on my site?

I do not recall adding any numbers/links to bubble except in the dropdown under the username... so not sure how it got there, but could be misremembering something... we are talking the wp admin bar and not the old buddypress bar, right? and no other buddypress plugins that do something with notifications...
I guess its possible that buddypress changed something since they have release multiple versions in the last month or so... we had tested with 2.1 but dont remember seeing anything there...
on business travel, but if you remind me (if I forget), I can try to take a look this weekend...

we are also having issues with buddypress notifications (via numbers in the blue circle) leading to pages that are basically blank site template pages.
I tried everything I could think of to reset the notification count including setting the user to Spammer status and then back to Contributor but that didn't get rid of it.
It appears to be a leftover notification that didn't get cleared but which doesn't point to anything anymore so it's prompting an error.
another issue related to this is we have a user with a 1 in the blue circle but two notifications (1 each in two different spots) displayed in the HOWDY drop down menu,

We are also currently without a button to invite new friends. We have buttons for Friendships and Requests but no way to invite new friends.
The permission in buddypress to let anyone form a group is disabled if it matters.

Unfortunately I have zero experience with Buddypress (something I've been meaning to get to grips with) so can't advise. Will have to wait for someone else to take a look.

afraid you have lost me... friendship requests? is that a buddpress thing? wont do anything with simple press... spammer status? is that core buddypresss? are you running other buddypress plugins?
are you talking buddypress counts or forum counts? the forum counts wont decrement until you actually visit the forum topic...

Bart, it sounds like some of your stuff is unrelated to the topic of the thread, but is a conflict between your theme and BuddyPress. I don't think a missing "Friend" button would have anything to do with Simple Press; are you sure your theme supports BuddyPress? It doesn't work with just any theme and that could easily be causing your issues.
Mr Papa, in putting his Member to Spammer Status, Bart was trying to reset the notification issue: Spammers don't get notifications because they are removed from "member" status.
I'm also not having any conflicts with the notifications sticking and Simple Press, only with the notifications having a "1" when there is more than one post, and the "1" leading to that dead page. (what is described in original posts)

I see a new version of buddypress was released today... will grab a copy this weekend and play with it some...
