Forum items not generated in sitemap

I just realized my blog sitemap does not include any forum items. I have read this similar topic but couldn’t find much help so far.

I am running latest WP 3.5.1, SP 5.2.6, Google XML Sitemaps Version 3.2.9 by Arne Brachhold and SP Google XML Sitemap SP plugin version 2.0. The sitemap plugin in SP is enabled and sitemap generation is set to:  “Generate sitemap on every new topic”.

The sitemap generation works fine for the blog items, but there are no forum topics listed, I believe it was working in the past (months ago?)

How could I fix the problem ?

Thank you.

no known problem currently…  its been working fine with no issue.. what version of Arne’s plugin?  been a few months since we last tested, will have to check if he released another version with some changes…

ran some tests on the latest 3.2.9 version…  interesting results…  something is different.. but forum stuff is added if you manually build the sitemap from the google xml sitemap options.. if you have the forum put its stuff in once per day, it works… but the option to do it on every post does not…

so will have to investigate what has changed… in the meantime, build it manually or switch to every day vs every post (on any kind of busy forum, the latter is kind of silly anyways, but will see what is going on)…

It’s Google XML Sitemaps Version 3.2.9 by Arne Brachhold as I mentioned :)

Is there anything you’d recommend me to try so I could debug the problem ?

Edit: I just read your answer in post #3 and I can confirm it does work when setting to “Generate sitemap once per day” and rebuilding manually the sitemap. Hopefully that will be fixed so we have a “Generate sitemap on every new topic” working again.

Thank you.

it does work if you dont have the option for google xml sitemap to build in the background either… so something has changed

Any update on this problem being resolved?  I am a new user of Simple:Press, with the following setup:

   – XML Sitemap Generator for WordPress:  3.3

   – WordPress:  3.6.1

   – Genesis Framework 2.0.1 (Metro Child Theme)

   – No SEO plugins

   – Simple:Press 5.3.1

   – Simple:Press Google XML Sitemap:  2.0.1

Following the instructions outlined above, I am unable to manually have the XML Sitemap Generator produce a sitemap that includes any page below /forum.

no, we have not yet been able to resolve what changed in their plugin… I see a new release was pushed out today too so will have to investigate…

but as previously stated, if you set the sitemap to build once per day, it will work… its only an issue with updates for each new topic with that plugin in background mode…  which is not a good setting for a forum anyways with any kind of traffic since you will be constantly pinging the search engine sites which they dont really like…

I just spotted that my sitemap was having the same issue.  I was able to fix it by updating the XML Sitemap plug-in (the WP one, not the SP plug-in) to version 3.3.

I will check it again in a couple of days to make sure that it was not just a one-off creation that ran this evening after the installation.

we have a ticket for the every post issue, but really, for a busy forum, that is too many notifications to a search engines… once per day is much better…

thanks for the input Grant…

I have just upgraded to SimplePress 5.4, WP 3.8, Genesis 2.0.1 and XML Sitemap Plug-in 3.4 and it’s broken again :-(

I have the SEO setting set to “once per day”

what’s broke again?  can you elaborate?  this topic had nothing to do with once per day settings…

are you saying that the latest version of the xml plugin has broken the simple press support of it?  its certainly possible they changed their api and broke things…  guess we can run some tests on their latest release (we dont use it anymore on our site)…

Well, originally you posted “if you have the forum put its stuff in once per day, it works…”

My problem is that I have exactly that setting, and it does not.

ie. I have SimplePress set to update the sitemap one per day, but even when I run the cronjob sph_cron_sitemap manually it does not populate the sitemap.xml with the forum posts.  However it does cause the sitemap to be updated (at least, the file has the same timestamp as the cron job).

If I go into the XML Sitemap plug-in settings and run that manually, then the posts get included.

If I then go back into SimplePress and run the cronjob again, the posts get removed from the sitemap.

so again, if something changed in the new version of the wp plugin, we will have to run some tests and verify they didnt change the api…

unfortunately, its holidays with travel and limited time…  currently on the road for Christmas with limited dev tools, so detailed investigation will be delayed slightly…

okay, think I have figured out what is going on here… seems a plugin dependency issue and depending on loading issue, a need user object can not be set up…  when not set up, the sitemap generation will throw and error and fail to add the forum items…

fix coming up and pending more testing, should be able to get a plugin update released this weekend…  sorry for the trouble and thanks for the heads up!

It has been months waiting for a fix since I reported that problem (post #1) and it seems to finally be working since I updated the “Google XML Sitemap” SP plugin to version 2.1 today.

Glad it’s fixed kiss

Cheers.
