Afraid that I am unable to currently replicate either of these issues.
Could you tell me what other WP plugins you have active please? And – if they are not that common, what it is they do?
Hello I am getting the same problem with my site. In the past I have had no problem with SPF and blog linking to topics and the opposite. However after just creating a blog post and selecting the create forum topic option, I have no forum topic link at the bottom of my blog post where they usually were. My old blogs do, but not my new ones. I just updated to the latest WP version 3.3.1 and still no luck. After playing with the SPF blog link settings, still no change. I also deactivated the last set of plugins I used since I made a blog post when everything was working fine, and they still did nothing. So now they are reactivated. Any solutions? I will look for a SPF plugin for blog linking???
I will need to ask a few questions first I think.
- A little confused by your last question – ‘look for an SP plugin for blog linking’. Do you mean by that that you are using SP V5 but have NOT activated the SP Blog Linking plugin?
- Assuming you are using V5 and have the plugin active are they the latest versions? Does the WP Updater tell you that there are newer versions waiting?
- When you say your old blog posts still show the link – just how old are these posts? The system has used the same method for displaying the link in blog posts for many years now so if it works for one it should work for all.
Let’s start with those!
Ok well I just installed V5 today. I didn’t seem to find the solution and couldn’t be bothered when I noticed the SPF 5 is out. What I am having trouble with right now is finding out how to upload plugins like the SP plugin for Blog Linking. I tried manually doing so into the resources folder and still nothing appears under the plugins tab in the forum settings section…?? Any advise on how to install plugins for me. It won’t allow me to do so via wordpress, I thought I’d give that a try but no luck there either. I do not see a link to upload simple press plugins within the plugins tab of the simple press forum settings for V5.
No – initially you need to manually upload them via ftp. Once in place the wp updater will work for future version releases.
By default, Sp plugins go into the folder /wp-content/sp-resources/forum-plugins.
The blog linking plugin – when unzipped – will give you the code in a folder called ‘blog-linking’. copy that folder into the one above and go to the Sp plugins page and activate.
OK I managed to solve the blog link problem by just updating wordpress to the latest 3.3.1 and simple press to V5.
Only issue I have is that my blog posts are not auto linking to the forum. They are still opening the blog pages and then users must click to link to forum. Any ideas?

Can you explain what you mean by ‘blog posts are not auto linking to the forum’.
Yes, when a user clicks onto a blog on the home page or side bar, they are still directed to the blog page. I thought that by selecting link to topic (in spf) it would open in spf only. Also, posts made in the blog pages are not being duplicated into the forums, however posts in the forums are being duplicated into the blog page which is odd.
I wanted the blogs to open into the forum so all replies are in 1 place – the forum topic.
For example if you go to http://www.amoauto.com on the home page are some blog posts. Click 1 and see what I mean.
Thanks.
sorry, not following or perhaps you are misunderstanding something…
why would those links on the main page take you to the forum??? they are put there by your wp theme…
are you thinking canonical url??? that has nothing to do with the urls for the wp post… the canonical url is a meta tag in the page html head tag… it tells search engines where the real url you want to link to the page is… and if I visit one of them, say the open letter one, and view the page source, you will see
<link rel=”canonical” href=”http://amoauto.com/forum/club-house/an-open-letter-to-drivers-motorists-on-the-public-roads1/” />
which is exactly what canonical urls do… but it doesnt change the page url output by your wp theme…
I see. What about the posting replies in the blog page and these replies not being replicated within the forum topic? Is this too suppose to happen. As I only get replies replicated into the wp blog page if made through the forums.
replies? do you mean comments? have you turned on the options and settings for comments to be added to the forum topic?
