starting with gravatars, can you provide more info?  currently, we have 1 user with an issue I believe but no issue found yet…  how about a link to example?? are  you getting no image or the next avatar priority??  are you using the gravatar cache plugin?

and no reports of mycred not working so need more info too… what version of mycred plugin?  and wp and our mycred plugin?

I can replicate the problem with our MyCred plugin on the latest version of the core WP MyCred. Looks like a simple fix so if you like I can give you the edit to make or – we will issue an update pretty quickly.

On the gravatar issue – need the responses to the questions @mr-papa has posed but I would ask that if you ARE sing our gravatar cache plugin – could you deactivate it to see if the problem persists.

It defaults to the Simple-Press avatars, for some reason. Individuals can upload their own, of course, but we want Gravatars to pull automatically.

Gravatar works just fine on the rest of the site, which is baffling: 

And before you ask, yes, we disabled the caching plugin along with every other plugin aside from Simple-Press. Sadly, it didn’t fix it!

*edit* Forgot to mention WordPress is version  4.6.1.

MyCred’s WP plugin is Version 1.7.3.

The Simple-Press myCred Extended Integration plugin is Version 1.0.6.

MyCred is registering points, but it won’t take any of our customizations (e.g. changing “mycred” to “quills,” since we’re a writing forum).

Also, the Simple-Press dashboard thinks the WordPress plugin isn’t installed:

We don’t have your gravatar cache plugin at the moment; we didn’t have it before, when the gravatars were working fine. Do we need to install it?

Let’s get MyCred out of the way first. The file you need to edit is the maim plugin file – so – 
/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-plugins/mycred/sp-mycred-plugin.php

Line 47 – locate the function sp_mycred_show_alert()

Change the ‘if’ test to this:

if (! class_exists('myCRED_Core')) {

and you should be fine. Note that the link to the myCred hooks from the SP plugins list is also wrong but you don’t need that to work with things.

Now onto Gravatars. We really are going to need a link to a page where a gravatar doesn’t show. That doesn’t need to be as a member – we really, in the first instance, need to see what the source code is calling. If you want to keep this private then…

as to the code, make sure you have proper quotes.. use the raw code button and copy direct…

gravatar cache plugin not required.. but can improve performance on your site… but please dont activate until we sort through the avatar issue first…

okay, so I see both uploaded avatars and default avatars…  can you give me example of a user who you absolutely knows has a valid gravatar at gravatar.com but its not showing?

so I am seeing calls to gravatar on topics… but its for getting the mystery man…

I added my email to this account which does have gravatar but it does not show… and oddly, when loading, it does query gravatar.com and my avatar is returned..  not sure why its not displayed or used though..

trying to investigate, but I am having difficulty using your wp admin – namely the simple press admin pages…  they are all throwing js errors from something called wpmUi… do you know what that is?  After loading an sp admin page, these errors prevent me from going any further in the admin…

Yep! As I said, the gravatars WERE working, and then they just stopped. Here:

Whoa, that’s weird! I’m not getting that error, or I would have mentioned it. I’m thinking we must have a plugin conflict, but I have no idea which one.

Also, as a reminder, we disabled all plugins before trying to figure out why Simple-Press was misbehaving, and it didn’t fix it. Hmmm. I’ll see if I can figure out which plugin is misbehaving!

Thanks for your help. It would be one thing if it hadn’t worked, but it’s worked for over a year, so I’m sure we can get it BACK to working again, somehow. 🙂

could you take screenshot of the entire forum – profile – avatar options panel and post it here?   might be worth just updating that panel too (ie save it again)…

its odd how the http request (or at least some) go out to gravatar and return the avatar, but its not used…  not sure i will get the answer from the admin… next step might be to get access to the server so we can add some debug code and see why the gravatar is not displayed..

We will get back to you later of course but it looks to be a change that WP made to their HTTP Request Library which has changed the response. We will get it fixed up probably today.
