Help to set digest for moderators but instant notification for users

Hi,

my forum is going well and I recently added 40 moderators.

I force email notification for users with the subscription plugin. That’s ok.

The problem is that every moderator receive a notification for every post. So around 30 mails a day. They start complaining about that. And I understand, it’s way too many.

So yes I’ve setup a daily digest email, problem is :

  1. Moderators receive a digest only about the topic they have posted a message in, not all new topics as it should be.
  2. Members now get Digest as well, in place of instant email notification

Question 1 : How can I deal to enable daily digest for moderator will leaving instant email notification to members ?

Question 2 : Will enabling digest for moderators, I want them to receive instant notifications for the topics they are engaged in. Is that possible ?

Thanks if you can help,

Cheers,

Hey Thibaud,

Unfortunately I don’t think there is a way of limiting digest emails to a specific usergroup such as moderators, and also the admin email notifications involve receiving all or no emails.

If your moderators are looking after specific forums, might it be worth getting them to just subscribe to the forums they moderate?

Sorry I think that’s about it there, although if there is a way I’m sure Yellow Swordfish or Mr Papa will chime in..

Yes unfortunately  that’s what I thought…

But don’t you think that’s the way it should work ?

I’d like to have Swordfish and Papa opinions about email parameters as well if possible.

All moderators must be responsible for the entire forum, not specific sub-forums.

I don’t that think teaching my moderators how to setup automatic filter and folders for their mailbox is the way to go. But for the moment the only solution i see. Wish doesn’t resolve the issue.

Thank you anyway Ike.

Or just get your moderators – if they prefer – to turn off their personal email notifications on the forum admin > Admins > Your Admin Options. That turns all the standard ‘admin’ notifications for them. Is that better?

But moderators don’t have access to the dashboard… They are not administrator nor author, they are just subscriber with moderators privileges on the forum…

Can we bring thoses options to the frontend profile editing ?

Then you can go in as an admin. Turn YOUR email notifications off and check the option to copy those settings to your moderators. Update and then turn your own notifications back on again and update.

Everything or nothing was not what I was asking for. But forget it if you don’t agree this is how it should work (1st message).

Thank you for your time anyway.

By the way I just realized that most of the notification (30 per user per day) have been filtered as spam. This is to many notification, I still believe the instant notification and the digest should be two different options to be activated per user role.

My opinion is really not relevant to what you want – but as you have asked for it then no – personally I feel moderators should be notified of all posts made within the forums they have been assigned to. Would I, as a moderator, want all those emails? Well, of course, I get them now as an Admin on this site but the answer is probably no I wouldn’t.

But I also think that depends on how an individual prefers to perform their responsibilities. I would want the emails. But I can also see that some might prefer to have none and to just keep a watch in the forum. We work differently here. I exclusively use email notifications and the admin bar plugin to check on all new posts. Mr Papa does not and prefers to use the Quicklinks and his personalised unread post list as I am sure he will tell you.

Damn my moderators also get all comments notifications for posts,

I thought they where only Simple-Press moderators, not WordPress moderators…

A user can have SP moderator rights without being a WP moderator. Have you checked to see what role these users have under WP?

I would just like to reinforce what Ike has said there. The Simple:Press user mode of ‘Moderator’ has absolutely no bearing on what emails they might be sent pertaining to non-forum WordPress functions. You need to sort that out elsewhere on your WP site – probably through their WP role.

By the way and just to make sure I understand the digest correctly :

  1. Digest email is an option for member to replace the instant notification, it’s one or the other
  2. It is not made for moderators, to receive all posts of the day in a general single email in place of the kind of 40 (it’s getting worth as the forum grows) notifications they all receive every day
  3. Their is no option for moderators to turn of notification themselves if you don’t want to let them access de backend

Also I realize that I face problems because I’d like to force moderators to have those 40 notifications emails by default, will having an option in the frontend to turn it off.

And also because when you save the forum subscription settings on my forum, you just get a XNULL message, this panel doesn’t work. So I was looking for an “activated by default” alternative.

I’ll wait for the new responsive theme that I guess you are testing here in beta. See if it solves part of my problem (profile tabs).

Thanks,

Thibaud
